If you’ve been looking at getting a gaming smartphone recently, a new one has just been announced in Malaysia. While the RedMagic 8 Pro only debuted earlier this year, there’s already a new RedMagic 8S Pro in town, packing an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 under the hood.

RedMagic 8S Pro Malaysia pricing and availability

The RedMagic 8S Pro will come in two options, with the base model packing 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage priced at RM3,699 while the higher end option with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage is priced at RM4,499. Available at the official RedMagic store on Shopee as well as their website, it will go on sale from 14 August onwards.

However, in conjunction with the launch of the RedMagic 8S Pro, they’re giving away a RM100 voucher to their fans everyday starting from 5 August till 14 August. To take part you can head over to the RedMagic Malaysia Instagram page and check for an interactive poll that will be posted on 5 August onwards each day. One random winner will be announced each day during the campaign, with the RM100 voucher applicable only if you purchase it from their website.

RedMagic 8S Pro specs

The RedMagic 8S Pro will at first glance almost certainly make you do a double take, as it’s one of the few smartphones out there with a notch-less and cutout-free display. It boasts a 6.8-inch, FHD+ AMOLED display with an up to 120Hz refresh rate, an up to 960Hz touch sampling rate and is capable of a peak brightness of 1300nits too as well as full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. There’s also a layer of unspecified Corning Gorilla Glass over it for scratch resistance.

It’s really under the hood though where the RedMagic 8S Pro stands out from its predecessor. It is the first smartphone in Malaysia to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 ‘Leading Version’, an overclocked version of the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2—similar to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy found on the latest Samsung flagships. That gets paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, with everything kept cool via its ICE 12 ‘multi-dimensional’ cooling system and a 20,000RPM cooling fan with RGB lighting. It runs Android 13 out of the box, skinned with RedMagicOS 8.0 over it.

In the camera department, the RedMagic 8S Pro packs a triple rear camera setup with a main 50MP, f/1.88 camera using the Samsung GN5 sensor. That gets flanked by an 8MP, f/2.2 ultrawide shooter and a 2MP, f/2.4 macro sensor. Up front meanwhile is a 16MP, f/2.0 under display camera sitting below that 6.8-inch display.

Other features of note include the aforementioned RGB lighting that can be fully customised as well. You’ll also find touch sensors on the side on the RedMagic 8S Pro that acts as shoulder trigger buttons too. A large 6,000mAh battery with support for 65W fast charging keeps the lights on, and there’s also an under display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, a 3.5mm audio jack and support for NFC, 5G, WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity.
