DJI Osmo Action 4: Bigger sensor for better low light recording, starts at RM1,899

Last September, DJI introduced the Osmo Action 3, an unassuming, back-to-basics action camera that kept things simple and clean with a reasonable enough price tag too. Less than a year later, DJI is now updating it with the new Osmo Action 4, building upon its predecessor with minor tweaks and upgrades.

The most notable upgrade with the new action camera is in the camera department. DJI has kitted out the Osmo Actino 4 with a larger 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor, similar to the ones found on their Mavic 3 Pro, Mini 3 Pro and the new Air 3 drones. The camera itself has a f/2.8 aperture and a 155° field of view, and is capable of filming 4K video at 120fps. If you’re using it to take photos, it takes slightly lower resolution photos at 3648 x 2736p while its 4K is also now 3840 x 2880p instead of 4096 x 3072p. However, thanks to the larger sensor (bigger than the one on the GoPro Hero 11 too), low light recording should be much better.

On top of that, the DJI Osmo Action 4 features D-Log M that helps enhance the dynamic range of the action camera. There’s also DJI’s suite of stabliisation tools such as RockSteady 3.0 and Rocksteady 3.0+ to minimise shaky camera footage, while HorizoSteady and HorizonBalacing are also present. It’s also now waterproof at up to 18m without its waterproof case, and up to 60m without it.

Other than that though, it is quite similar to the Osmo Action 3 of last year. It shares the same 1.4-inch display on the front and the 2.25-inch display on the back (both capable of up to 750nits of brightness), Keeping it powered meanwhile is also an identical 1770mAh battery that’s rated for up to 150 minutes of use. There’s no internal storage here either, so you’ll want to ensure you have a microSD card with you at all times.

As for how much it’ll cost, the DJI Osmo Action 4 will start at RM1,899 for the Standard Combo. This gets you the camera itself, along with an Osmo Action Extreme battery, a Horizontal-Vertical Protective frame, a quick-release adapter mount, a curved adhesive base, a locking screw, a USB-C to USB-C cable, a lens hood and an anti-slip pad.

For RM2,389, you can also get the Adventure Combo, which gets you all of the above along with two more spare batteries, a mini quick-release adapter mount, an extra locking screw, a multifunctional battery case and a 1.5m extension rod. You can find both combos for the Osmo Action 4 at DJI Experience Stores as well as their Shopee and Lazada storefronts.
