Yesterday evening, Elon Musk tweeted that Twitter will undergo a rebrand to “X”. He said a new interim X logo will be posted soon and it will be rolled out worldwide. He also added that soon “we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and gradually all the birds”. To complete the new look, he seems to be proposing to make black the new default colour option.

Shortly after that, the billionaire who also owns Tesla and SpaceX shared a video of what the new “X” logo could look like. In case you didn’t know, X.com was an “online bank” co-founded by Elon Musk which was eventually became to Paypal.com.

To mark the transition to the new X brand, the domain X.com now redirects to Twitter.com. At the time of writing, Twitter still looks the same and we have yet to see the changes in Malaysia.

According to newly minted Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino, she said X will be transforming the global town square and it will be a platform with unlimited interactivity centred in audio, video, messaging, payment and banking. It aims to be a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services and opportunities powered by AI. She added that fans and critics have pushed Twitter to dream bigger and they have started to see X take shape over the past 8 months through rapid feature launches.

Besides introducing Twitter Blue subscriptions, Twitter under Elon Musk has undergone several major changes. Most recently, Twitter announced that it will limit the number of DMs a user can send for non-paying accounts.

If Twitter is renamed to X, what would a tweet be called?
