This post is brought to you by HONOR.
One of the good things about technology is that it becomes accessible to more people as the manufacturing process matures and the production cost goes down. This process can be clearly seen with smartphones where features that were once only found on high-end models trickle down the range.
The HONOR 90 is one of the best examples to defend this point. Housing features that once came at a premium price, here are 5 reasons why the HONOR 90 punches way above its price class.
A screen that’s not only good to look at, but safer as well
Have you ever experienced a migraine when staring at your phone’s screen at lower screen brightness? Well, this is the result of screen flicker caused by reducing the brightness. When you reduce the brightness of the screen, your phone is just reducing the time the light stays on by turning it off for longer before turning it back on.
By repeating this process very fast, your eyes perceive the screen as being dimmer. However, many smartphones have a low PWM frequency of under 1000Hz, which leads to screen flickering that causes eye strain and migraines.
To offer a comfortable viewing experience at lower brightness, the HONOR 90 uses an ultra-high frequency PWM dimming at 3840Hz. According to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standard, screens with frequencies above 3125Hz can be considered risk-free to the eyes.
With that, the HONOR 90 has earned a TÜV Rheinland Flicker-free certification for its display.
Besides being safer for your eyes, the 6.7-inch AMOLED is also pleasing to look at, with it being able to reproduce 1.07 billion colours and covering 100% of DCI-P3 colour space. Additionally, the 120Hz refresh rate makes the UI animations feel buttery smooth. To top things off, the display is curved on all four sides, melting into the frame of the phone.
Massive cameras all around
For all your photography needs, the HONOR 90 comes equipped with a massive 200MP Super Sensing Camera with a large 1/1.4-inch sensor. In less-than-ideal lighting conditions, the image processor powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Accelerated Edition can combine 16 adjacent pixels into one large pixel. By doing so, it improves the overall brightness and clarity of the photo.
But when light is ample, you can take photos at the full 200MP resolution with the High-Res mode. Since there’s light data from 200 million pixels, you can crop into the subject you want to focus on without any noticeable loss in image clarity.
HONOR also provides a higher resolution, 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera instead of the more common 8MP units found on smartphones in this price range and even on more expensive smartphones.
The selfie camera is no slouch either, featuring a 50MP unit with a 100° wide-angle field of view. Now, it’ll be easier to fit more people in the frame for a group selfie. Moreover, just like the primary camera, you have the option of shooting selfies at the full 50MP resolution for greater detail clarity.
Feature-packed camera software
To take full advantage of the HONOR 90’s camera, you get feature-packed camera software.
For example, HDR portrait uses computational photography to brighten your subject without blowing out the scenery behind.
Night mode is great for extracting as much light detail as possible in the scene at night. The image is then processed to control highlight and shadow exposure to prevent the image from becoming pale.
Besides making your photos look good, there are camera features to help add some fun to your photos like Moving Photo. When you shoot a photo, it captures a few seconds of video as well so you can re-watch the events right before the photo was taken.
Last but not least, Multi-video Recording allows you to record a video with the front and rear cameras simultaneously, allowing you to record the moment and your reaction together.
Packing a large battery to power all its features
Powering the HONOR 90 and its features is a large 5,000mAh battery, packaged in a body that is 7.8mm thin and weighs 183g. HONOR claims the phone can last up to 19.5 hours of continuous video streaming on a single charge.
When it comes time to top up the battery, it only takes 15 minutes to go from 3% to 45% charge as the phone supports 66W HONOR SuperCharge with the included charger. While charging, the HONOR 90 will stay cooler thanks to a larger head dissipation area.
One of the best RAM and storage combinations in this price range
The HONOR 90 comes with one of the best RAM and storage combinations in its class. Offered in two variants, you can either opt for 12GB of RAM mated to 256GB or 512GB of storage. The 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage option is more commonly seen on flagships costing more than double the price of the HONOR 90.
With 12GB of RAM, the phone can keep more apps running in the background, offering a more seamless experience when multitasking with several apps. The computing power to run all your favourite apps comes from the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Accelerated Edition.
The big question: How much does the HONOR 90 cost?
Everything the HONOR 90 has to offer starts from RM1,799 for the variant with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. For an additional RM300, you can get double the storage at 512GB with the same amount of RAM at 12GB for RM2,099.
You can get even more value out of your purchase as HONOR will be bundling free gifts worth RM797 which include an HONOR Earbuds X5, a 1-year extended warranty, and a 180-day screen crack warranty, while stocks last.
Additionally, you will receive an RM150 eWallet credit (TNG eWallet for West Malaysia and Boost for East Malaysia) when you purchase the phone during the first-day sale, happening for one day only, on the 22nd of July 2023.
