TM appoints TM Global EVP as their new Group CEO

TM has announced a major change for its top leadership with the appointment of a new Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), as well as a new Chairman on the board. Current TM Group CEO Datuk Imri Mokhtar’s current 3-year term ends on 31st July 2023 and he will be succeeded by Amar Huzaimi Md Deris effective 1st August 2023.

Amar is currently the EVP of TM Global and he heads the Group’s domestic and global wholesale business. Described as a home-grown talent, he started his career with TM after graduating in 1998 and has served in various capacities including financial control, internal audit, corporate and regulatory affairs and Group CEO’s office.

Datuk Imri has served at TM for 21 years. Before he was appointed as Group CEO in July 2020, he had taken up the role of Celcom’s Chief Operating Officer for a couple of months after leaving TM as the Chief Operating Officer.

Commenting on his new role, Amar said, “Datuk Imri has set the right path for TM, with the strengthened foundation from the turnaround and pursuit of new growth areas – charting the shift from a Telco to a TechCo. I am proud to have been part of that journey; and now, I am enthusiastic to follow through and lead TM to the next level.”

Meanwhile, Datuk Imri has expressed his confidence in his new successor, saying “Amar is an exceptional TMgrown leader with a proven ability to navigate the business and deliver results. I have full confidence that TM shall attain greater success under Amar’s leadership. I extend my best wishes to Amar, the leadership team and Warga TM as they embark on the next chapter of TM’s growth journey.”

TM’s current Chairman Tan Sri Azlan Hashim will complete his 2-year term on 31st July 2023. He will be succeded by Dato Zainal Abidin Putih as the new TM Group Chairman effective 1st August 2023.

According to TM’s statement, Dato Zainal Abidin brings a wealth of experience and distinguished track record in the corporate sector. He is currently Chairman of Financial Reporting Foundation (FRF), Land and General Berhad, Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd and Tokio Marine lnsurans (Malaysia) Bhd, as well as Board Member of Khazanah Nasional Berhad and several private limited companies. He has also previously served as Chairman of Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Berhad, CIMB Bank Berhad, Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (MASB) and President of Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA).

As the new Chairman, Dato Zainal Abidin will be responsible for overseeing the overall governance and strategic direction of TM. He will work closely with the Board of Directors and management team to drive TM’s next wave of growth and strengthen its market position.
