Malaysian youths and full-time students at institutes of higher learning can apply for their RM200 eWallet credit starting on Monday 26 June 2023 under the eBeliaRahmah programme (formerly known as eTunai Belia Rahmah). As announced during the tabling of Budget 2023, RM400 million has been allocated to the programme which aims to promote a cashless payment society as well as to help reduce their financial burden.
What is eBeliaRahmah? Who is eligible to redeem RM200 eWallet credit?
The eBeliaRahmah programme is only for Malaysian citizens that fulfil one of the following criteria:
- Youths aged 18 to 20 years of age in 2023 (Malaysians who are born from 2003 to 2005)
- Full-time students studying in registered institutions of higher learning in Malaysia with active status before 30th April 2023.
The programme is expected to benefit 2 million youths in the country. Malaysians aged 21 years old in 2023 (born in 2002) are not eligible. Students who are only starting their studies later this year but have registered as full-time student before 30th April 2023 are eligible to redeem.
How to redeem the RM200 eBeliaRahmah credit?
For this initiative, there are only three supported eWallet providers. The one-off RM200 eWallet credit can be redeemed from the following eWallets:
- Boost
- Setel
- Touch ‘n Go eWallet
Users must verify their eWallet accounts through the electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) process before they can redeem the credit.
Interestingly, previously supported eWallets such as BigPay, Grab and Shopee during last year’s ePemula programme are not included. In addition to the RM200 eWallet credit, the eWallet providers will offer extra incentives in the form of vouchers, cashback or reward points throughout the programme. For clarity, you can only redeem the RM200 eWallet credit once from one of the three listed eWallets.
When can you redeem the RM200 eBeliaRahmah credit?
According to the Ministry of Finance, eligible recipients can apply to redeem the credit starting from 8.00am on Monday, 26th June 2023. The redemption of the RM200 eWallet credit will be available from 26th June to 22nd August 2023. The RM200 will be credited within 3 days of application.
Where can you spend the RM200 eBeliaRahmah credit?
The redeemed RM200 credit can only be spent through offline channels until 11:59pm on 31st August 2023. This means you can’t use it for online transactions, in-app bill and game payments, peer-to-peer transfers, parking and toll payments. That also means you can’t transfer the RM200 credit to other eWallet accounts.
The three supported eWallet providers – Boost, Setel and Touch ‘n Go eWallet, allows users to scan and pay using the DuitNow QR code. The remaining balances from the RM200 eBeliaRahmah credit will be forfeited upon expiry.
