Effective 1st July 2023, all Maybank online transactions can only be approved using Secure2u on the MAE app. The move is part of Maybank’s online security measures to safeguard customers and minimise the risk of scams and fraudulent transactions.
Reiterating the latest security measure, Maybank says Secure2U through the MAE app (Apple App Store, Google Play Store, Huawei AppGallery) will be the only platform to approve transactions made from the M2U web, M2U app, MAE app and for online transactions made for Maybank cards. If you’re still using the older M2U app, you are urged to migrate to MAE. Meanwhile, existing MAE app customers are encouraged to constantly update their app to the latest version.
Prior to this, Maybank stopped allowing new Secure2U activations on the M2U app effective 26 September 2022 as part of its move to migrate users to MAE.
Maybank’s Group CEO, Community Financial Services Dato John Chong said “In view of the worrying trend of rising online financial fraud activities in today’s digitalised environment, Maybank remains committed to assure a worry-free customer journey by providing
enhanced security measures for mobile and online banking solutions to avoid our customers from being scammed of their hard-earned money.”
The move to Secure2u via MAE is also in line with Maybank’s support to Bank Negara Malaysia’s direction of moving away from SMS-based OTP to more secure ways to authenticate transactions. In addition, Maybank has also implemented a one-time 12-hour activation period when customers enable Secure2U on the MAE app for the first time or when switching to a new device. The 12-hour cooling-off period is aimed at preventing unauthorised transaction approvals and providing enhanced protection for customers.
A few months back, Maybank also introduced a Kill Switch feature which allows Maybank customers to instantly block all transactions if they suspect that their account details have been compromised. Once triggered, customers can only reactivate their accounts through a verification process at a physical branch. The Kill Switch feature also covers credit and charge cards, and it will soon be extended to cover Maybank debit card users by June 2023.
