Announced back at the end of March, the Huawei Watch Ultimate has finally made its way to Malaysia. As the name suggests, this is the flagship of the Chinese company’s watch line, with plenty of features and capabilities to go with the high price tag.
Huawei Watch Ultimate Malaysia price and availability
The Huawei Watch Ultimate is more than double the price of the next most expensive Watch GT 3 Pro—at RM3,799, it competes directly with the identically-priced Apple Watch Ultra. It’s available now on the Huawei eStore, its official Shopee and Lazada stores and at all Huawei Experience Stores nationwide.
Huawei Watch Ultimate specs and features
Billed as a rugged premium smartwatch, the Watch Ultimate features the world’s first zirconium-based liquid metal case, claimed to be 4.5 times stronger, 2.5 times harder and 17.4 times lighter than a conventional stainless steel case.
The 48.5mm case is ever so slightly smaller than the Apple Watch Ultra’s, which should make it marginally more comfortable to wear, although it’s heavier at 79g. The Huawei also has a ceramic bezel and case back and an aerospace-grade titanium bracelet; a second rubber dive strap is included with every purchase. Sitting at the front of the watch is a 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a pixel density of 311 PPI, covered by sapphire crystal.
Just like Apple, Huawei claims its Watch Ultimate can be worn while diving. Both watches carry EN 13319 certification, but while the Apple Watch Ultra is only rated up to 40m, the Watch Ultimate can go right down to 100m. Neither are ISO 6425-certified, however, so they can’t legitimately be called dive watches. A 16-structure water-resistant design and a micron-level waterproof filter enable the Watch Ultra’s underwater prowess.
To take advantage of this ability, the Watch Ultimate comes with several modes for free diving and recreational and technical scuba diving, along with “pro-level” diving algorithms, diving guidance and a depth sensor. To ensure the device remains operable even when using gloves, the three-button layout features prominent chronograph-style pushers and a large crown.
Additionally, the Watch Ultimate gets a new Expedition Mode for hikes, incorporating a dim mode that turns the screen orange for increased legibility in dimly-lit environments, as well as a more reliable dual-mode GPS and Route Back navigation for retracing your steps. Both of these were lifted from the Apple Watch Ultra.
Like every fitness tracker worth its salt, the Watch Ultimate will measure a myriad of health and fitness metrics, including your heart rate, calories burnt, oxygen saturation and sleep cycles; it can also record and electrocardiogram (ECG). It also features over 20 professional and 100 basic workout modes, including cross-country running and mountain climbing, and there’s even a golf mode that will measure your swing speed, swing tempo, backswing time, and downswing time.
One advantage over the Apple Watch Ultra is battery life, with Huawei claiming 14 days of typical use and eight days of heavy use. The Watch Ultimate also supports wireless charging and includes Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity and NFC. It can be used with smartphones running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and later and iOS 9 and later, using the Huawei Health app.
