This is the Xiaomi 13 Ultra and it will have the brightest screen ever on a smartphone

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra design has been revealed ahead of its launch event scheduled for tomorrow evening. After sharing teasers of its massive camera bump with a quad-camera array co-developed with Leica, we now get the see the rear of the new photography-centric smartphone in its full glory.

As shared on Weibo, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra gets a premium-looking design with a faux-leather-looking back which is somewhat similar to last year’s Xiaomi 12S Ultra. There will be four 50MP cameras that use a combination of Sony IMX989 and Sony IMX858 sensors. As confirmed by Xiaomi, the 13 Ultra will still get a 1-inch sensor for the main camera which now comes with a variable aperture lens that can switch between f/1.9 and f/4.0.

Another interesting detail revealed today is its front display which claims to offer an incredibly high peak brightness of 2600 nits, making it the brightest screen on a smartphone. That’s brighter than the Oppo Find X6 Pro which has a maximum peak rating of 2500 nits while the iPhone 14 Pro peaks at 2000 nits. According to Xiaomi, the higher brightness is made possible with a new C7 2K LTPO panel jointly developed with Huaxing and it also provides a better viewing angle while maintaining a lower power consumption.

The new flagship device also gets a flat metal frame which claims to be 4.4 more resistant to bends and it is wrapped with a second-generation “nano-skin” material with anti-bacteria, anti-stain and anti-yellowing properties. On top of that, it also gets IP68 rated dust and water resistance.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra Launch is happening on 18th April 2023 at 7pm local time. Unlike the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, the 13 Ultra will be released for the global markets.

Be prepared to pay more than RM5,000 for this new flagship as the current Xiaomi 13 Pro is already going for RM4,999 in Malaysia. As a reference, the previous Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 powered Xiaomi 12S Ultra with 8GB RAM + 256GB storage was priced at CNY5,999 (about RM3,858) and it goes all the way up to CNY 6,999 (about RM4,502) for the 12GB RAM + 512GB storage option.
