Kobo Elipsa 2E: Giant eReader with a 10.3-inch screen and stylus, priced at over RM2,000

Rakuten Kobo has launched another of their eReaders in Malaysia, this time the Kobo Elipsa 2E. Much more of a premium eReader for book lovers around the country, Rakuten says that they’ve also designed it with readers who want to engage with their eBooks in mind.

Almost immediately you’ll notice the huge size of the device. The Kobo Elipsa 2E packs a massive 10.3-inch, E Ink Carta 1200 touchscreen display pushing a 1872 x 1404p resolution with a 227ppi pixel density. Helping out this display meanwhile is a ComfortLight PRO light allowing for adjustable brightness and colour temperature. Perhaps the most notable feature though is the included Kobo Stylus 2, a stylus that lets you jot down notes across the page on your eBooks and PDFs as you read off the Elipsa 2E.

The Kobo Elipsa 2E also comes with 32GB of storage with a 2GHz processor powering the device and support for 15 different file formats ranging from EPUB, EPUB3, PDF and TXT as well as CBZ and CBR too. You’ll also find a USB-C port for charging its battery that they claim will last you for weeks on end, and if that 32GB of storage isn’t enough you can also sign in to Dropbox or Google Drive to easily import and upload your files and your personal notes too. It’s compatible with third party services such as Readwise, Evernote, Roam and more too.

Other features of note include support for WiFi5 and Bluetooth wireless connectivity for hooking it up to your speakers or wireless headphones if you’re more of an audiobook person. The Elipsa 2E is built out of recycled and ocean-bound plastic as well as recycled magnesium alloy, all of which comes with sustainable packaging as part of their commitment to be more eco-conscious.

Positioned as an alternative to the Amazon Kindle Scribe, the Kobo Elipsa 2E will likely be the standout choice if you’re looking for a premium, large screen eReader with stylus support but don’t want to be locked down into the Amazon ecosystem. You’ll have to fork out quite a bit though, with the Elipsa 2E priced at RM2,019 in Malaysia. You can pre-order it now already from their official store on Shopee.
