What’s new with the 2nd gen Garmin MARQ series?
The new MARQ series boasts an all-metal design with Grade-5 titanium which claims to be five times stronger and harder than most steels. Besides increasing heat and corrosion resistance, the material also makes the new MARQ better scratch-resistant and lightweight compared to stainless steel. The 46mm watch case also gets a domed sapphire lens and a vibrant AMOLED display which you can touch for navigation. This provides a more convenient smartwatch experience, especially for map interaction.
In terms of location-based tracking, the new MARQ watches have support for multi-band GNSS, multi-frequency GPS (L1+L5) and Garmin SatIQ technology which Garmin claims to secure superior positioning accuracy in any environment while optimising battery life. Depending on the environment, the technology will automatically select the right satellite mode in real-time.
The most affordable of the lot under RM10,000 is MARQ Athlete which comes with a silicon rubber strap. The watch allows athletes the track all aspects of their performance, training and recovery with Training Readiness which provides a score based on their sleep quality, recovery, training load and more. For runners, the MARQ Athlete also provides advanced training features such as PacePro and Real-Time Stamina. Out of the box, it also comes preloaded with sports apps to cover various activities including running, cycling, swimming, skiing, golf, pickleball & tennis, gym workouts and surfing.
Moving up a notch is MARQ Adventurer which has an edge-to-edge leather and durable FKM rubber hybrid strap. According to Garmin, this strap design is designed to work for both casual and activity settings as it combines the elegance of a leather strap with increased sweat and stain resistance. The compass bezel gets a 360-degree marking which complements the Orienteering feature for navigation.
The MARQ Captain is a nautical-focused variant which gets a navy ceramic bezel complete with a regatta timer and a race-inspired striped jacquard weave nylon strap. For better situational awareness on the water, the watch has Alerts and Alarms that will signal imminent tide changes and anchor drag. Users can also access autopilot from the wrist to change heading, engage pattern steering and follow a route. It also includes profiles for other water activities such as kayaking, standup paddleboarding, windsurfing, kitesurfing and kiteboarding.
Meanwhile, the MARQ Golfer features a golf-course-inspired green colour which includes a green ceramic inlay and tritone green jacquard-weave nylon strap. Designed with golfers in mind, it comes preloaded with over 42,000 golf courses worldwide and it can automatically detect which course you’re on to provide precise distances to the front, middle and back of the green along with the slope direction with the Green Countours. The watch also offers Garmin’s advanced golf features such as Virtual Caddie, Hazard View, Wind Data, PinPointer and three Approach CT10 golf club sensors for automatic club tracking.
The most premium variant of the series is the MARQ Aviator which is aimed at pilots and aviation enthusiasts. It comes with a brushed titanium bracelet with swept-wing links and locking clasps, along with a ceramic 24-hour GMT bezel. For globetrotters, Garmin has a new Jet lag Adviser feature which will recommend the amount of light exposure, sleep schedule and exercise to minimise the effects of jet lag. According to Garmin, the feature works for long-distance single or multi-destination trips and you can enter your travel details in the Garmin Connect app before departure.
