After publishing our updated list of best unlimited prepaid plans in Malaysia, we’ve received requests for a similar list for postpaid. If you’re looking for a postpaid plan with loads of data for less, we have got you covered. Here’s our latest list of the best “Unlimited” postpaid plans in Malaysia.
As usual, we would like to highlight that most “unlimited” plans in Malaysia come with a Fair Usage Policy (FUP). Despite being advertised as being “unlimited” most plans in the market come with an invisible ceiling which limits how much you do can at full speeds. Once you’ve hit the hard FUP limit, you can still connect to the internet but your speeds will be throttled down to 512kbps or even lower. To help you make the right decision, we are going to highlight the FUP that is hidden in the plan’s FAQ and terms and conditions.
Digi Postpaid Infinite 55 and Infinite 75
We are starting the list with Digi Postpaid Infinite plans which are offered as a limited-time offer. There’s the Digi Postpaid Infinite 55 and Infinite 75. Both offer “Unlimited” internet and calls to all networks and it also gets 10GB of hotspot data.
The difference is that Infinite 55 at RM55/month has a speed cap of 6Mbps. While Infinite 75 at RM75/month has double the speed at 12Mbps. If you do sign up with a 12-month contract, Digi lets you enjoy one of the available freedom add-ons. You can choose to enjoy either extra high-speed data (10GB for Infinite 55, 20GB for Infinite 75), unlimited high-speed data for social apps, streaming apps or gaming apps.
Of course, these plans also come with a FUP and both are set at 600GB per month which is pretty generous. That’s double the quota of Digi Prepaid Next 40 which has a FUP of 300GB.
If you really want an unlimited plan with no speed cap and unlimited hotspot, you can go with the more expensive Digi Postpaid 150 with the Unlimited Internet & Hotspot Freedom Add-on. The FUP for this plan is 999GB per month. But do you really want to spend so much on a postpaid line? I wouldn’t recommend it but this is the only option with “unlimited” hotspot from Digi.
Xpax Postpaid Unlimited 75
Next on the list is Celcom and they recently introduced their Xpax Postpaid Unlimited 75. For RM75/month you get unlimited internet capped at 10Mbps and unlimited calls to all networks. Also included is 10GB of hotspot data. If you sign up for a 12-month contract, you can enjoy this plan for RM65/month, which is RM10 cheaper.
If Digi’s 600GB FUP quota is not enough, well, this Xpax Postpaid Unlimited 75 has a FUP of 1000GB. Yes, that’s one terabyte that you can use on your phone.
Celcom Mega Unlimited 98
If you need more speed and hotspot quota, there’s Celcom Mega Lighting 98. For RM98/month, you get unlimited data capped at 15Mbps and also unlimited calls to all networks. For hotspot, it comes with 15GB of quota per month.
Interestingly, there’s no FUP quota specified. In the T&C, it is mentioned “Celcom may at its absolute discretion manage your allocated bandwidth including but not limited to reducing your speed, suspend or terminate your bandwidth to the Mobile Internet Service to ensure fair access to all Celcom Customers on the same network with or without prior notice to you as prescribed in Celcom’s Fair Usage Policy.”
Long story short, it is still unlimited but Celcom has the right to throttle your speeds if they think you are abusing the network.
Yes Infinite Postpaid
Now we come to Yes 5G by YTL Communications with their Infinite Postpaid plans. During the launch, these plans are said to be the cheapest & fastest unlimited 5G + 4G plan in the world. On top of that, Yes says they are setting a new standard for unlimited by having no FUP!
Most recently, they have upgraded their hotspot quota for postpaid and here’s their offering today. The base Infinite Basic plan costs RM58/month and it comes with unlimited 5G and 4G at uncapped speeds. It comes with unlimited calls and you also get 20GB of hotspot quota. If you need more hotspot, you can switch to the higher plan. Infinite Standard at RM88/month comes with 50GB hotspot.
For those of you who shop a lot on Shopee, you can actually redeem extra hotspot data for free with the current Yes Databack promo.
For every RM50 spent on Shopee, you can redeem 5GB of data in the following month. Just copy the voucher code from the Shopee app and paste it into the yes app.
RedOne Hybrid 50 Postpaid
Besides the normal main telcos, RedOne also has its own “Unlimited” plan but it is described as a hybrid plan.
The RedOne Hybrid50 Postpaid Plan costs RM50/month and it comes with 20GB of high-speed 4G data and also unlimited data capped at 6Mbps. It also comes with unlimited calls to all networks in Malaysia.
When it comes to their FUP, the unlimited data is limited to 100GB per month, while the unlimited voice calls are limited to 100 hours per month. However, take note that unlimited data can’t be used for hotspot usage. And it’s limited to on-device use only.
In case you didn’t know, RedOne is a mobile virtual network operator (or better known as an MVNO) and they are using Celcom’s network.
Recommended Plans
Yes Infinite Postpaid
If you’re looking for a plan with unlimited data, no speed caps and no FUP, the Yes Infinite plans are the way to go. It’s the only option here with 5G and it costs only RM58/month. The Infinite Basic plan also offers unlimited calls and 20GB of hotspot quota. As said earlier, you can redeem more hotspot data for free with the Shopee databack programme.
The only downside is that 5G coverage is still quite limited. Meanwhile, Yes’ 4G network especially for indoors isn’t that great compared to the more established telcos.
Digi Infinite 55 Postpaid
If you don’t need 5G, the Digi Infinite Postpaid 55 is something you might want to consider. For RM55/month, you get “unlimited” data capped at 6Mbps, 10GB of hotspot and you also get 600GB FUP, which is pretty generous.
Xpax Postpaid Unlimited 75
If you want a telco with the widest 4G coverage, higher capped speeds and the most generous FUP, the Celcom Xpax Postpaid Unlimited 75 might be your cup of tea. It offers unlimited data capped at 10Mbps, unlimited calls and 10GB of hotspot quota. On top of that, the FUP is set at 1000GB, which is definitely more than enough for most people.
Actually, if you compare these postpaid plans with the cheaper “unlimited” prepaid plans that we covered earlier, it seems that you are not really getting much value for going postpaid.
Unless you’re planning to get a device on contract, the “unlimited” prepaid plans are actually cheaper but the FUP is also significantly lower. But if you’re not gonna use more than 50GB a month, perhaps you should consider getting prepaid instead.
And of course, the most important factor to consider is coverage. There’s no point in having the best value plan if you can’t use it to the fullest.
