Gentari, EV Connections and Yinson GreenTech have jointly signed a roaming agreement which will enable a seamless EV charging experience in Malaysia. The roaming agreement will enable cross-tracking and cross-access charging of the different networks on Gentari (Setel), JomCharge and ChargEV mobile apps.
The EV roaming announcement was made during Automechanika Kuala Lumpur 2023 and this will provide EV users with the ability to find and activate over 550 charging points in Malaysia which accounts for 70% of EV charging points from a single app. Gentari currently has over 150 charging points, ChargEV operates about 300 charging points and JomCharge currently has 100 charging points.
Gentari Chief Green Mobility Officer Shah Yang Razalli said “To accelerate EV adoption in Malaysia, it is essential to prioritise customer experience. Therefore, by June, users will have the added benefit of cross-access charging, giving them access to approximately 70% of all charging points in Malaysia.”
Meanwhile, EV Connection Managing Director Ir Lee Yuen How said, “Our fingers are always on the pulse of consumers’ needs, and we are taking the initiative by coming together to make your life simpler. Via this tri-network partnership, we give greater range confidence to users when driving in Malaysia, as they can locate the entire charging network of the three service providers via Setel, JomCharge or chargEV.”
Commenting on the roaming agreement, Yinson GreenTech Senior Vice President of Business Development Srinivas Tati said, “YGT is always committed to working with like-minded partners who share our vision of providing a better user experience and accelerating the adoption of EVs. This collaboration is a first step in the infrastructure collaboration with key industry players, that will lead to more opportunities and possibilities in the future.”
In January, Gentari signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thailand’s Evolt Technology Company Limited to expand the EV charging infrastructure and solution across Southeast Asia. Besides exploring potential collaboration in renewable energy, they are also looking at roaming services to offer EV drivers a seamless charging experience even when driving across borders.
