Google Pixel Fold and Pixel 7a will be available in June

Last week, it was revealed that this year’s Google I/O, their annual developer conference, was slated to happen on 10 May 2023. While the focus will typically be on the software side—Android 14, Google’s work in AI, etc—there’s a good chance that we’ll be seeing some hardware too, with reports hinting at the debut of the Pixel 7a and the Pixel Fold, Google’s first ever foldable.

According to reliable leaker Roland Quandt of WinFuture, it looks like we will be seeing both devices available for purchase by June, which seems to line up with Google showing it off first during their big event. Of course, whether or not it’ll be available in Malaysia is a separate question, with Google hardware still not officially available for purchase here.

Nevertheless, pictures of the Pixel 7a in particular have already surfaced too, showing the entry-level Pixel in all its glory. It looks similar to the current Pixel 7 series, and according to Quandt will be available with at least 128GB of storage, available in Arctic Blue, Carbon and Cotton colourways and should be priced somewhere around the EUR500 mark with users able to purchase it by the second week of June. Earlier leaks have also hinted at the rest of its specs, namely an upgraded display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a Google Tensor G2 processor, upgraded camera hardware and perhaps even wireless charging.

As for the Pixel Fold, Quandt claims that it too will be available for purchase—at least in Europe—by mid-June as well. He has only sighted one storage option so far, 256GB, though others hint that it’s likely to be available with 512GB of storage too. Quandt says it’ll be available in Carbon and Porcelain colourways too. It could be priced as high as EUR1,700, but Quandt himself isn’t convinced of that price tag so far.

Just like the Pixel 7a, the Pixel Fold has long had its supposed specs leak out. Google is reportedly fitting a 7.57-inch main display with a tablet-like aspect ratio to it, which folds down into a 5.79-inch outer display that is much shorter and wider compared to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4. There will also be a horizontal rear camera bar, while the main display would have a thick bezel on the top and bottom of the screen. It should be powered by the Tensor G2 as well, the same as the rest of the Pixel 7 series, along with the largest battery in a foldable yet.
