Tesla sets up first Supercharger station in Thailand, Malaysia to follow soon?

Tesla has set up its first Supercharger station in Thailand, located at the CentralWorld shopping mall in metropolitan Bangkok. With this new Supercharger station, it’s the largest Tesla charging station not just in Thailand, but also in the whole of Southeast Asia.

This new Supercharger station, housed at the shopping complex’s underground parking lot, features nine charging stations charging at up to 250kW, with a fifteen minute charge there allowing you to drive for up to an additional 322 kilometers. Users will need to download the Tesla app which can then be used to track each charging station’s availability, keep tabs on your car’s power percentage and get notified when it’s fully charged too. This comes after the company recently launched a Tesla test drive center at The Paseo Ramkhamhaeng in Bangkok.

Tesla added that they aim to also build at least 13 stations in Thailand by the end of the year, ranging from central Bangkok to the outer regions of Thailand too. The EV maker is also looking at building Supercharger stations in other locations beyond shopping centers, such as hotels, restaurants and other local attractions. Tesla is also now providing after sales services to Thai users, with each Tesla buyer also getting a home charging consultation service with Tesla Certified Installers. Thai Tesla owners will be able to book a service appointment and request for roadside services via the Tesla app too.

While our neighbours already have the official presence of Tesla at their doorstep, we’ll have to wait just a little bit more before Malaysians can purchase their own Tesla EV. The Ministry of International Trade and Industry has recently confirmed that they’ve approved Tesla’s application to import their EVs into the country, which will also see Tesla establish a head office, service centers and a Supercharger network in Malaysia. This means you may soon be able to get a Tesla Model 3 with official warranty for less than RM300,000.

Currently, Tesla is officially available in Singapore and Thailand, meaning that Malaysia would be the third market for Tesla in the region. For more about Tesla’s upcoming official presence in Malaysia, you can click here.
