Honor has recently launched its Magic 5 series and Magic Vs foldable for the global market during MWC 2023. For those who still don’t know, Honor smartphones come with Google Mobile Services including access to the Google Play Store. With the prices of flagship smartphones getting more expensive, consumers are expecting better software support to ensure reliable and secure usage for the years to come.
As reported by Android Authority, the new Honor Magic 5 and Magic Vs series will be getting three major operating system updates and five years of security updates. We have reached out to Honor Malaysia and they have confirmed that they are indeed offering these software update commitments. The promise to deliver 5 years of security updates can provide greater peace of mind for consumers, provided that they are rolled out timely. This is on par with most big smartphone brands such as Samsung.
However, for the 3 major operating system upgrades, it is slightly behind the competition including Samsung, Oppo and OnePlus which offers up to 4 major or 4 years of operating system upgrades. It is worth pointing out that operating system upgrades may not necessarily mean an upgrade to the latest Android version and it could possibly come as an upgraded MagicUI verison.
The latest top-of-the-line Magic 5 Pro is running on MagicOS 7.1 out of the box that’s based on Android 13. The device is expected to be released in Malaysia sometime in early April 2023. In Europe, the Honor Magic 5 Pro with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and a humongous 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage is priced at EUR 1,199 (about RM5,688), but we reckon that it would be priced significantly lower in Malaysia.
