The Honor Magic Vs is one of the closest challengers to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and it stands out for having a slimmer form factor without the noticeable “thigh gap”. Initially launched in China, the Magic Vs has finally made its global debut at Mobile World Congress 2023 and it will go on sale in various markets including Malaysia.
Honor Magic Vs Specs and Features
To recap, the Magic Vs is essentially the thinner successor to the original Magic V. It has a 6.45″ Full HD+ 120Hz OLED cover display while the inside gets a larger 7.9″ foldable 90Hz OLED that pushes a resolution of 2272×1984 pixels. The biggest change is the gearless hinge system. The Magic Vs uses a simpler hinge mechanism that uses just four parts in the supporting structure and it is designed to withstand 400,000 folds during its lifetime.
Under the hood, the Honor Magic Vs is running on an older Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip and it’s offered with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. For imaging, the rear of the Magic Vs comes with a triple-camera bump that offers a 54MP main camera, 50MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and an 8MP telephoto camera. Meanwhile, the front and the inner display get a 16MP selfie shooter.
Powering the device is a 5,000mAh battery and it supports 66W fast wired charging. Unlike the foldable benchmark, the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the Magic Vs loses out on IPX8-rated water resistance and it also lacks wireless charging.
Out of the box, the Honor Magic Vs runs on Android 13 with MagicOS 7.1. In terms of multi-tasking, the interface allows you to run up to 3 apps simultaneously, with two apps opened side by side while a third app can be running as a floating window.
Honor Magic Vs Pricing
As announced during the global launch event alongside the Magic 5 Pro, the Magic Vs with 12GB + 512GB configuration is priced at EUR 1,599 which is about RM7,582. The device will be coming to Malaysia and it is likely released after the Magic 5 series hits our local market.
Despite having a better form factor than the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the Magic Vs at the moment is running on an older processor which is something quite hard to justify if you’re buying a premium device. On top of that, the price gap between the Magic Vs and the Z Fold 4 is getting narrower by the day with Samsung throwing significant discounts in preparation for the next Z Fold that’s due sometime in September.
In Spain, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is currently offered with a hefty EUR 300 discount and you can get the 12GB RAM + 512GB storage model for EUR 1,759. That is merely EUR 160 more than the Magic Vs. On top of that, Samsung Spain is sweetening the deal by offering a 50″ Smart TV for free.
If the Honor Magic Vs launches in Malaysia for about RM6,000, would you consider it over the Galaxy Z Fold 4? Let us know in the comments below. In case you missed it, you can check out our hands-on video of the Magic Vs:
