The Enhanced Touch ‘n Go card which allows you to reload instantly from your NFC-enabled phone remains one of the most sought-after items in Malaysia right now. If you’re still looking to buy one without crazy markups from scalpers, the TNG NFC card is now in stock on the official TNG eWallet online shop. However, you must buy the card as a bundle with the TNG RFID tag.
The TNG RFID Tag + Enhanced Touch ‘n Go card bundle is currently going for RM45.00 on Lazada. To recap, the TNG RFID tag costs RM35 while the Enhanced TNG Card retails for RM10. With the shipping costs included, you’ll have to pay RM49.90 in total for this RFID tag and card combo.
This RM45 combo is great for those who need both RFID and a new TNG card. But, if you just need the RM10 Enhanced Touch ‘n Go card, you will have to continue your search for available stock. It is funny that a standalone TNG card can’t be restocked properly but it is easily available when it is offered as a RM25 special edition card or as a bundled combo with a smartphone or in conjunction with special events.
Following recent recommendations made by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry to Touch ‘n Go, the company has revealed that it will increase the production of its TNG card by 30% this year, from 2.68 million cards in 2022 to 3.5 million cards in 2023. It hopes that the increased supply will improve the current card shortage situation especially when older cards expire after 10 years. As highlighted recently, the new Enhanced TNG card with NFC will expire earlier in 7 years instead of the usual 10 years.
Touch ‘n Go has also introduced its eWallet-linked Visa Prepaid card recently which has caused some confusion among consumers about its ability to pay for tolls and parking on existing TNG terminals. Despite the ministry’s recommendation to rebrand the card, TNG Digital has applied a quick fix by alerting new applications that the Visa card isn’t a TNG card.
