Bill Gates prefers the Galaxy Z Fold 4 over a tablet when doing work on the go

Last year, Microsoft co-founder and billionaire Bill Gates made headlines for being perhaps the most famous person to be using a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3—and not even his old company’s Microsoft Surface Duo 2—when he revealed what phone he daily drives in a Reddit AMD (ask me anything) session. He’s since held another Reddit AMA, and Gates has updated us with what device he carries in his pocket yet again. As it turns out, he’s upgraded to the latest Galaxy Z Fold 4, courtesy of Samsung chairman JY Lee.

When quizzed by Reddit user u/1oarecare about what his daily driver smartphone was and if it’s still the Galaxy Fold, Gates replied that he now has a Galaxy Z Fold 4, which was given to him by JY Lee when they met in South Korea. Gates adds that he uses plenty of Outlook and Microsoft software on it still, but it’s specifically the screen size that he likes as he no longer needs to bring a tablet with him.

“I have a Samsung Fold 4 which JY Lee the Chairman of Samsung gave me when I saw him in South Korea to update my Fold 3. Of course I use Outlook and a lot of Microsoft software on it. The screen size means I don’t use a tablet but just the phone and my portable PC – a Windows machine,” – Bill Gates

Now we were actually quite curious as to when exactly did JY Lee give Gates his new Galaxy Z Fold 4 and so we started digging. It seems that the two billionaires did actually meet back in August of last year, just two weeks after Samsung had launched the Galaxy Z Fold 4. In fact, the two were apparently discussing toilets, or more specifically, a project between Samsung and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that worked to develop a new prototype toilet that was safer for use.

If you’re in the market for a new smartphone and want to feel like Bill Gates yourself, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is currently starting at RM6,399 on the Samsung website, which is actually lower than the RM6,799 price tag it debuted with. It brings with it a large 7.6-inch QXGA+ AMOLED main display and a 6.2-inch HD+ outer display. You also get a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 under the hood with 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, and users should be able to update to OneUI 5.0 already too. If you really do want to use it as a tablet replacement, you can also get a Samsung S Pen to use along with your Galaxy Z Fold 4.
