Shopee has announced a revision to its Marketplace Commission fee which will require most sellers with high sales volumes to pay up to 100% more for the commission fee. The new rates will take effect from 10th January 2023.
According to Shopee’s notice, this revision will apply only to local Marketplace sellers with 100 or more completed orders since joining Shopee. The new commission rate will only be charged on orders placed and completed from 10th January 2023 onwards.
It added that the change does not affect existing commission fees paid by Shopee Mall and overseas sellers. To help new eCommerce sellers, Shopee will not charge a commission fee for all Marketplace sellers with less than 100 completed orders since joining their platform.
All illustrated in a table by Shopee, products from the Electronics, Fashion, FMCG and Lifestyle are currently charged with a commission fee rate of 2.00%. Effective 10th January, sellers would have to pay between 2.50-4.00% for Electronics, 4.00% for Fashion, 3.00-4.00% for FMCG and 3.50-4.00% for Lifestyle. On top of that, there’s also 6% SST applicable on top of the commission fee.
There’s also a footnote stating that essential FMCG goods such as bakery, baking needs, cooking essentials, food staples and fresh and frozen food are exempted.
The notice mentioned that the commission fee is charged based on the product price after deducting the seller vouchers and seller shipping promotion. The commission fee will be deducted directly from the sellers’ payout.
