Not too long after enabling 5G, Telekom Malaysia (TM) introduced a new Fair Usage Policy (FUP) for its unlimited passes on Unifi Mobile #Bebas Prepaid plan. While the plan still offers “unlimited” 4G and 5G data pass for RM35/month, there are now a couple of restrictions which is bad news for those who are using it for unlimited hotspot.
TM sets limited hotspot for Unifi Mobile Bebas prepaid
On the surface, there’s no price change for Unifi Mobile’s unlimited passes. The unlimited monthly pass costs RM35/month, while the weekly pass costs RM12/week. For short-term usage, the daily unlimited pass costs RM3/day and the 2-hour unlimited pass costs RM1.
If you make a lot of voice calls, TM has included unlimited calls to all networks for its unlimited monthly pass at no extra cost. However, hotspot usage is now limited to just 10GB a month. For the weekly plan, the hotspot quota is 3GB while the daily option now comes with just 1GB of hotspot.
Previously, there was no dedicated quota for hotspot usage. If you have an unlimited pass activated, you can enjoy unlimited hotspot on Unifi Mobile #Bebas.
Unifi Mobile introduces speed and data cap for 4G data
Besides the hotspot limit, TM has also added 4G speed and data cap for its “unlimited plan”. There’s now a 100GB FUP limit for the monthly pass, 20GB FUP for the weekly pass and 10GB FUP for the daily pass. Interestingly, the shorter 2-hour unlimited pass has no hotspot and FUP limit for 4G usage. Once you’ve hit your FUP limit, your data speed will be throttled to 512Kbps which TM claims to provide a fair usage experience for standard-definition video streaming, social media, chat apps and internet browsing.
Another new revision is that all unlimited passes now have a lower speed cap of 5Mbps. Previously, there was no speed cap mentioned and we could get close to 10Mbps on Unifi Mobile depending on the location.
No speed and data cap for 5G for now
If you’re residing in an area covered by DNB’s 5G network, 5G usage continues to be free with no data and speed cap for now. Their FAQ has stated that the unlimited 5G service is offered as a user trial for free until 31st December 2022. After purchasing the Unifi Mobile Bebas Prepaid unlimited pass at RM35/month from the app, you must redeem the 5G unlimited pass within 72 hours in order to enjoy unlimited data on the 5G network.
