Every year, OPPO hosts its annual INNO Day event to showcase new technology that the company has been working on. For this year’s INNO Day, OPPO chose to go with the theme of “Open for More,” which aims to remind tech enthusiasts that there are endless possibilities when it comes to innovation.
Therefore, in line with OPPO’s mission of “Inspiration Ahead,” it’s opening more possibilities for tech enthusiasts to experience the next innovation in the tech space. One example is the OPPO Find N2, which made its debut at the OPPO INNO Day on the 15th of December 2022.
For the second iteration of OPPO’s flagship foldable phone, the company has introduced numerous innovations to the Find N series to help move the foldable device game forward. On the OPPO Find N2, the standout innovation must be the reduction of the crease when unfolded.
Compared to its predecessor, the crease along the centre of Find N2’s main screen is 67% narrower, making it less likely to catch your attention. Therefore, watching videos on YouTube or gaming on the large 7.1” LTPO AMOLED is much more enjoyable with fewer distractions to take your attention away from the content.
OPPO managed to reduce the crease on the Find N2 with the second-generation Flexion Hinge. By incorporating a host of new materials like carbon fibre and aviation-grade high-strength alloy, the Flexion Hinge is not only thinner and lighter but also more robust.
On a weighing scale, the phone weighs just 237g in Green and White while the vegan leather edition comes in at 233g, making the OPPO Find N2 the industry’s lightest horizontally folding smartphone. In day-to-day use, the lightweight construction allows for easy one-handed operation despite featuring a 7.1” display.
Contributing to the weight reduction is also the use of 38 fewer parts, at just 100 parts. However, the second-generation Flexion Hinge also brings more than that to the table because it can now hold a position at any angle between 45-125 degrees. To complement this new hardware feature, OPPO has introduced FlexForm Mode on the software side.
So, for instance, in the camera app, folding the Find N2 will move the viewfinder to the top of the screen while the camera controls are distributed at the bottom, giving you an uninterrupted view of your subject. While in this half-folded mode, the Find N2 also acts like a tripod and tilting the top screen up or down adjusts the shooting angle.
Speaking about the camera, around the back, there’s a flagship camera system featuring a primary 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor with OIS, an ultra-wide angle 48MP Sony IMX581 lens and a 32MP telephoto camera using a Sony IMX709.
Also present on the Find N2 is OPPO’s self-developed neural processing unit (NPU), the Marisilicon X which made its debut during OPPO INNO Day 2021.
Based on a 6-nanometer process, the NPU can perform 18 tera operations per second, allowing for 4K Ultra Night Video with real-time AI Noise Reduction and 4K Ultra HDR Video that helps to maintain shadow information without completely blowing out the highlights.
Together with FlexForm, the OPPO Find N2 can be placed on a flat surface to capture a 4K time-lapse of a beautiful scenery at night.
OPPO has also partnered with renowned Swedish camera maker, Hasselblad to co-develop the camera software found on the Find N2. As such, the phone is certified Hasselblad Natural Colour Calibration (HNCS) for mobile in professional mode.
This is an iteration of Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution created specifically for OPPO, consisting of a series of colour calculation and calibration algorithms applied to the 10-bit RAW files captured in Hasselblad Professional Mode.
Rounding the camera features up, is XPan Mode which recreates the vintage ultra-wide panoramic 24 x 65mm film format of the Hasselblad XPan camera. Photos shot in XPan mode provide a new perspective with a cinematic look thanks to the extra width provided by the 8:3 aspect ratio.
There are also a pair of 32MP cameras located on the external and internal display for handling selfies and video calls.
OPPO’s second-generation Flexion Hinge features a precision-engineered cam and spring design that makes sure folding and unfolding the Find N2 feels incredibly smooth and satisfying even after 400,000 folds.
When folded, the phone closes flat with a thickness of 14.6mm and all the interactions take place on the compact 5.54” AMOLED. OPPO has designed the Find N2 with the Golden Ratio in mind, whereby the phone unfolds into a landscape orientation by default. This makes transitioning from the external display to the internal display when watching videos, gaming, or browsing the web more convenient.
Switching between the two displays is made seamless by ColorOS 13, which has added features to take advantage of the OPPO Find N2’s unique form factor. Power users who love multitasking would be pleased to know that a two-finger swipe down the middle of the internal screen quickly activates a split-screen view that takes full advantage of the 7.1” AMOLED.
While in split screen view, you can easily screenshot one of the open apps with a simple three-finger swipe down on the app window. If you want to screenshot both app windows, a swipe down the middle will capture the entire split-screen view.
The ability to run two apps side by side is made that much easier thanks to the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC paired with up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Providing juice to the OPPO Find N2 is a 4,520mAh battery with 67W SUPERVOOC fast charging. A 10min charge can restore 37% of battery life while a full charge takes around 42 minutes.
Thanks to the powerful hardware, both displays on the OPPO Find N2 can run at their best. The external display is 5.54” AMOLED with a resolution of 2120 x 1080 pixels and a wide 17.7:9 aspect ratio for a more comfortable typing experience. Simple tasks can be completed on the external display as it has a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1550nits of brightness.
Move to the internal display and there’s a 7.1” LTPO AMOLED with a variable refresh rate between 1 to 120Hz for better energy efficiency. Resolution measures in at 1920 x 1792 with an aspect ratio of 9:8.4 and a peak brightness of 1550nits, making outdoor viewing a non-issue.
Ideal for daily use with a durable hinge that helps reduce the size of the crease, the Find N2 is OPPO’s take on creating the best foldable smartphone experience for users everywhere.
The OPPO Find N2 is a result of countless hours of research to bring users an improved version of the award-winning OPPO Find N like incorporating the second-generation Flexion Hinge with FlexForm, Marisilicon X NPU, Hasselblad camera software, and faster-charging speed to power users through the day.
