EA Sports FIFA 23 correctly predicted the winner of the World Cup… for the fourth time

The EA Sports game FIFA 23 has correctly predicted the outcome of the World Cup for the fourth time. However, it may be its last prediction, as Electronic Arts and FIFA will be parting ways after the latest edition, ending a 30-year partnership.

On 8 November, FIFA 23 posted its prediction that Argentina would be winning the World Cup. They did so after “correctly predicting the last three winners in 2010 (Spain), 2014 (Germany), and 2018 (France).

“We’ve used EA SPORTS FIFA 23 with groundbreaking HyperMotion2 Technology and the dedicated FIFA World Cup 2022 ratings in FIFA World Cup Kick-Off and Tournament modes to simulate all 64 matches and see who will come out on top come December,” wrote FIFA 23.

While they were right on the money by predicting Argentina as number 1, their prediction of Brazil being number 2 is a little off. France ended up being number 2 instead. And Lionel Messi did not win the Golden Boot for most goals in the tournament, as FIFA predicted. That honour went to France’s Kylian Mbappe.

Messi, however, did land the World Cup’s Golden Ball (best player) as predicted by FIFA 23. It made history as he became the only two-time winner of that award.

This may be FIFA’s last World Cup prediction, as EA Sports and FIFA would no longer be partnering together in 2023—after 30 years. The game’s next version, expected in the early fall, will be called EA Sports FC. It will not carry any of FIFA’s marks or symbols.
