It was reported that Twitter has removed the device label from tweets, which is the ability to see which device a tweet comes from. It means that it’s now a lot harder for brand partnership-related mishaps to happen.
Twitter boss Elon Musk quote tweeted a report on the platform and said “Hallelujah!”. Underneath his tweet, comments praised the move—saying that they “hate it when people know they tweet from their Android”, or that it “was rather necessary“.
A Twitter user also mentioned an old tweet from 2018 that showed Gal Gadot posting a paid tweet promoting the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, but with an iPhone. The tweet was then deleted, and reposted from an Android phone.
However, users have also mentioned that Twitter’s device label was necessary. According to a user, it was good to know if the tweet has actually been published by the user or a third-party app.
“It’s a nonsense to remove it if you want to keep Twitter safe,” said the user.
Earlier this week, Elon Musk was under fire for banning several prominent journalists on Twitter, and then later restoring them—but under certain conditions. They would be allowed to return if they deleted the tweets he falsely claimed shared his “exact real-time” location.
