Honor Magic Vs will be sold outside of China, will it come to Malaysia first?

Honor has just launched the Magic Vs in China, their second foldable smartphone that’s set to rival the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. However, while their first foldable, the Magic V, never made it outside of China, it seems that there’s a good chance the Magic Vs will be made available in other regions too.

Don’t just take it from us though. George Zhao, the Honor CEO, has stated that the Honor Magic Vs will be their first ‘international foldable smartphone’ and that it will be made available outside of China. This is pretty significant, considering that prior to this, the only foldable smartphones available outside of China have been ones from Samsung, Huawei and Motorola.

“The Honor Magic Vs will be our very first foldable flagship to debut in overseas markets and we are confident that it will deliver huge advancements, transforming how people all around the world use their smartphone,” – George Zhao, Honor CEO

Taking that into account, it seems that there’s a good chance that Malaysians will soon be able to get their hands on the Magic Vs. Malaysia has traditionally been a key market for Honor, and in the past we’ve typically been part of the first wave of countries to get Honor’s new devices, such as the Honor 50.

Another clue about the imminent arrival of the Magic Vs on our shores is that when we were given the chance to have a hands-on with Honor’s foldable, we found that it actually came with Google Mobile Services preloaded onto its MagicOS 7.0 skin of Android. In contrast, when we were previously given the chance to take a look at their earlier Magic V, it came with their China-only software, complete with apps like Weibo and Bilibili rather than Google’s suite of apps.

That being said, Honor Malaysia are certainly keeping their cards close to their chest, only telling us and Malaysians that we’ll need to stay tuned to their social channels for any updates on the Magic Vs’ availability. Right now, it seems that the only region to have confirmed availability is Europe, who will be getting it early next year.

In case you missed it, the Honor Magic Vs is a thinner and lighter evolution of the original Magic V, featuring a 6.45-inch, FHD+ OLED outer display in a 21:9 aspect ratio with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the inner display is a 7.9-inch foldable OLED with a 2272 x 1984p resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The hinge meanwhile has been redesigned into a gearless system, using just four parts in the supporting structure while still being able to handle 400,000 folds.

You’ll also find a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 under the hood with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage, along with MagicOS 7.0 based on Android 12 out of the box. As for cameras, tehre’s a 54MP main camera flanked by a 50MP ultrawide shooter and an 8MP telephoto camera, along with 16MP selfie shooters on the outer and inner displays. Keeping the lights on meanwhile is a 5,000mAh battery with 66W fast wired charging.

We were able to get a quick look at the Honor Magic Vs ourselves in person, and you can find out more about it here.
