The OnePlus Ace 2 could feature a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor

It’s always interesting to see affordable smartphones being powered by last-gen flagship processors, and it looks like the OnePlus Ace 2 will be the next smartphone in line. A leak on Twitter reveals that this upcoming mid-range device will be powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor.

Following Qualcomm’s recent unveiling of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, the 8 Gen 1 chips are basically “last-gen” though they’re still plenty capable, and according to Twitter user @heyitsyogesh, a serial leakster, the upcoming OnePlus Ace 2 will see a 2022 flagship Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor at its core. Besides that, the smartphone will feature a 6.7″ 120Hz Fluid AMOLED display with a resolution of 1.5K, though I’m not quite sure what the pixel count on that actually is.

It will also feature up to 16GB of RM and 256GB of internal storage, which should be plenty. Keeping the lights on is rumoured to be a 5,000 mAh battery, and staying true to OnePlus’ obsession with fast-charging, it’ll support up to 100W of fast charging.

For photography, the phone will reportedly come with a 50MP camera sensor at the back alongside an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a third 2MP shooter (likely macro or depth) to boot. This 50MP camera sensor will apparently be the Sony IMX890. Up front, there’s a 16MP selfie shooter.

OnePlus Ace

Now, the OnePlus Ace didn’t officially launch in Malaysia, but when it made its debut in China earlier this year, it had a price tag of CNY2499 (~RM1,600). For that money, the phone featured a MediaTek Dimensity 8100-MAX processor, a 120Hz display and Sony IMX766 camera sensors.

So, if this rumour proves to be true, the Ace 2 looks like a pretty big update considering the price. For context, the last OnePlus device in Malaysia to feature a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is the OnePlus 10T and that had a retail price of RM3,199. Obviously, since this is a rumour, this information should be taken with a grain of salt, and we don’t know how much this Ace 2 will retail for or if it will ever make it into Malaysia. It would be interesting to see here though, especially if it’s priced even remotely close to RM1,600.
