Consumers choosing to get more environmentally friendly products have become quite a thing in recent years, and its no different with tech products. We’ve seen Apple remove charging bricks from the box due to eWaste concerns, while the likes of Acer have gone all out with their Vero lineup of ‘green PCs’. The latest to join this trend now is Nokia, whose latest smartphone is the Nokia X30 which they claim is their most eco-friendly phone yet.

The Nokia X30 will be available in just one configuration with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, priced at RM2,099. It is already available for pre-order on the official Nokia store on Shopee, and early birds will be able to snag themselves a free Nokia X30 clear case along with a pair of Nokia Comfort Earbuds while stocks last.

As mentioned earlier, Nokia—or rather, HMD Global—is calling this the X30 their most eco-friendly smartphone yet, with the device having the smallest eco-footprint among their smartphone lineup. A big part of this is thanks to the Nokia X30 having a frame built out of 100% recycled aluminum while the back cover is made of 65% recycled plastic, all while still maintaining an IP67 dust and water resistance rating. The eco-friendliness part does mean that the Nokia X30 doesn’t come with a charger in the box though.
Upfront, you’ll find a 6.43-inch, FHD+ AMOLED display that is capable of a 90Hz refresh rate with a peak brightness of 700nits. There’s also a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus over it for scratch resistance. Under the hood meanwhile is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It comes with Android 12 out of the box, and Nokia is guaranteeing at least three major OS upgrades.
As for the camera department, we’re also seeing the return of the Nokia PureView branding on the Nokia X30. There’s a 50MP, f/1.9 main camera on the rear, which uses a 1/1.57-inch sensor with optical image stabilisation. Next to it is a 13MP, f/2.4 ultrawide-angle camera while for selfies you get a 16MP, f/2.4 front facing shooter. Nokia claims that this is the best PureView photo experience yet, with new features like Capture Fusion that ‘brings the power of the main camera’ when you take ultrawide-angle shots.
Elsewhere, there’s a 4,200mAh battery with 33W fast charging that Nokia says will last you up to two days of use. There’s also an under display fingerprint sensor and support for NFC, 5G, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. Weighing in at 185g, the Nokia X30 will be available in just Cloudy Blue.
