Earlier this month, Samsung Malaysia had introduced the Galaxy A23 5G, a budget-friendly smartphone with 5G support and a 50MP camera. Now, Samsung seems to be doubling down on their entry-level options with another new and cheaper device, the Galaxy A04s.

The Samsung Galaxy A04s is already available for purchase in Malaysia, and comes in just a single configuration with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It will have a recommended retail price of RM699, and can be found from the Samsung online eStore and physical stores as well as from their retail partners nationwide. Curiously, at time of writing, the Galaxy A04s is actually going for below recommended retail price on the Samsung eStore, being priced at just RM679.

At first glance, it might seem fairly similar to the older Galaxy A03 which launched early this year, as it has a similarly sized 6.5-inch, HD+ Infinity-V LCD display. However, the Galaxy A04s does have an extra trick up its sleeve by also having a higher 90Hz refresh rate.
Under the hood, the Galaxy A04s packs an Exynos 850 system-on-chip mated to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the Exynos 850 processor of course, as it first debuted in the Samsung Galaxy A21s back in 2020. You’ll also be able to “expand” the memory to 8GB of RAM by adding 4GB of virtual memory from its storage space via RAM Plus, while external storage is also possible via microSD. The Galaxy A04s comes with One UI Core 4 based on Android 12 out of the box.
Meanwhile, in the camera department the Galaxy A04s has a triple rear camera setup featuring a main 50MP, f/1.8 camera flanked by a 2MP, f/2.4 depth sensor and a 2MP, f/2.4 macro lens. It shoots at up to FHD 30fps video footage, and can punch in for a digital zoom of up to 10x. As for the front camera, Samsung has kitted out the Galaxy A04s with a 5MP, f/2.2 camera for selfies.
Elsewhere, there’s a 5,000mAh battery with 15W charging that Samsung claims will last you up to 90 hours of audio playback or up to 21 hours of internet use. There’s no stereo speakers, but you do still get a 3.5mm audio jack, along with support for WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0. There’s also a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for biometric security. The Samsung Galaxy A04s weighs roughly 195g and will come in Copper, Green or Black colourways.
