The Nothing Ear (1) wireless earbuds that feature a transparent design have just turned one-year-old a few months ago. Ahead of the launch of its upcoming Ear (Stick), the original Ear (1) will get a massive price increase starting next week.
The company’s founder Carl Pei tweeted that they will be raising the price for the Ear (1) to USD 149 (about RM703) due to an increase in costs. The Nothing Ear (1) was originally launched at USD 99 last year and it went on sale in Malaysia for RM499.

If you’re interested in getting a pair, Carl recommends that you purchase one before the price increase. At the moment, the Nothing Ear (1) is going for RM379 on the OnePlus global store (Yup, that’s not a typo) on Shopee.
Carl explained that when they started developing the Ear (1), they only had 3 engineers and today they have 185. The Ear (1) is the company’s first-ever product and they have sold nearly 600,000 units worldwide. So far, the company has pushed 15 firmware and tuning updates, and Carl says it is a completely different product from when they launched it.
The Ear (1) boasts up to 4 hours of music playback with active noise cancelling enabled or up to 5.7 hours with ANC turned off. With the bundled transparent case, you can get up to 24 hours of music playback with ANC. The case charges with USB-C and it also supports Qi Wireless Charging. The wireless earbuds have IPX4-rated splash resistance and it supports Bluetooth 5.2 with fast pairing support. You can learn more in our announcement post.
The Nothing Ear (Stick) is launching next Wednesday, 26th October at 10pm Malaysian time. As seen in a couple of teasers, the new earbuds feature a lipstick-like case. From the latest photo shown on Highsnobiety, the Ear (Stick) seems to come with a hard tip instead of a soft tip in-ear design. It still retains a transparent look for its protruding stems.
It has been speculated that the Ear (Stick) will be positioned lower than the Ear (1) as it will not feature noise cancellation. This seems likely since it is hard to insulate outside noise with a hard tip design. Because of the shape, the new (Stick) may lack wireless charging support. With Ear (1) getting a price hike, we are guessing that the new Ear (Stick) could possibly launch with a retail price tag of USD 99. What do you guys think?
