[ UPDATE 6/10/2022 13:00 ] Time 2Gbps fibre broadband plan confirmed but can you really get true 2Gbps?

If you live in a high-rise building and it’s covered by Time, chances are you’re subscribed to Time fibre broadband as it offers unbeatable value that starts from RM99/month. The magenta-themed internet service provider has teased that something is coming this Friday, 7th October and it looks like they could be offering double the speed of its current fibre broadband offering.
Time teases 2x Speed 2x Fun
According to a teaser posted on Time Internet’s Facebook page, it showed what appears to be a lock screen of a phone with a new shade of pink. There’s a label on the top left that mentions “2x Speed. 2x Fun”. The screen also shows 07:10 on 7th October 2022, which could be the exact moment when everything will be revealed.
It has been a while since Time revamped its fibre broadband offering and the 2x Speed appears to indicate that they are offering twice the speed of their current plans. At the moment, the highest Time fibre plan is 1Gbps so we are guessing that Time may soon introduce a higher 2Gbps broadband option for home users. This would make it the fastest fibre broadband offering for mass consumers.
There’s also the possibility that Time might offer free speed upgrades to all existing customers as it did four years ago. Back in 2018, Time customers on 100Mbps were bumped up 500Mbps while customers on 300Mbps and 500Mbps were upgraded to 1Gbps. The full details shall be revealed this coming Friday and it would be sweet if customers are given free upgrades at no extra cost to their subscription.
Current Time fibre broadband plans
To recap, Time currently offers home users 100Mbps fibre broadband at RM99/month, 500Mbps at RM139/month and 1Gbps at RM199/month. Unlike most fibre broadband providers that run on TM’s HSBB network, Time offers 100Mbps upload for its base 100Mbps plan while its higher 500Mbps and 1Gbps options get 500Mbps upload speeds. As usual, all plans are tied with a 24-month contract but Time does offer a no-contract option which will require you to pay a one-time charge of RM400 or RM500.
However, for business users, Time only offers 100Mbps and 300Mbps fibre broadband options which both come with 100Mbps uploads. For those who don’t need fixed IP, the 100Mbps business plan usually costs RM138/month while the 300Mbps plan is going for RM198/month. Fixed IP is available at an additional cost.
Since other fibre broadband providers such as TM and Maxis are offering up to 800Mbps for business users, it is probably time for them to offer more fibre broadband options with higher download and upload speeds.
