Time has officially announced its 2Gbps fibre broadband offering for consumers which will be available for subscription starting tomorrow, 7th October 2022. This also marks the first commercial deployment of 10G PON technology in Malaysia which will enable higher fibre broadband speeds of up to 10Gbps.
The 2Gbps fibre broadband plan costs RM379/month, and it offers 2Gbps downloads and 500Mbps uploads. Time is including a 2Gbps capable WiFi 6 router as well as two WiFi 6 mesh nodes to provide wider wireless coverage in your home. The service also comes with Time Voice Home Basic which provides voice calls on a pay-per-use basis.
According to Time, the 2Gbps plan is available in selected buildings in 3 locations which include Mont Kiara, Segambut and Desa Park City. It added that they are rolling 2Gbps out in phases and will be covering more locations in the coming months. You can check if your building is covered here.
Time offers true 2Gbps connectivity
Unlike most 2Gbps plans in Singapore which offer 2x 1Gbps connections, customers on Time 2Gbps fibre broadband will enjoy true 2Gbps connectivity. It added that customers will be able to see at least 90% of their subscribed speeds while conducting speed test. However, they will need to ensure that their personal devices can support 2Gbps speed in order to get the full potential.
Time is bundling a 2Gbps-capable Huawei HN8245X6 WiFi 6 Router which has four LAN ports including one that can support 2.5Gbps. Meanwhile, the two WiFi 6 mesh nodes are Huawei’s HG8145X6.
No price update for 100Mbps, 500Mbps and 1Gbps plans
The pricing for other fibre broadband speeds remains unchanged at RM99/month for 100Mbps, RM139/month for 500Mbps and RM199/month for 1Gbps. If you sign up online, Time is offering an extra RM200 Touch ‘n Go Wallet credit if you sign up for the 2Gbps plan on their website starting tomorrow.
Head of Special Projects, CIC’s office Rohaila Basir said “To this exact date 4 years ago, we changed the game when Time launched the first ever gig-speed plan for Malaysians. While 1Gbps still leads the market, we’ve chosen not to rest on our laurels and instead, double our speed offering once again as our customers deserve the very best.”
She added, “The past 2 years have seen a surge in Internet usage. The demand for stable, high-speed connectivity will only increase and the best way to prepare is stay ahead of the game. We know everyone will need more bandwidth, so why wait? We will continue to innovate on both the product and service fronts to make great Internet available to even more Malaysians.”
Besides introducing the new plan, Time has also introduced its brand new logo. According to their brand guidelines, their new wordmark features friendly characters and details that reference a clock face.
As part of its effort to push for service excellence, Time is offering same-day service installation to most customers within its coverage areas who subscribe before 10am. This will be offered to new customers at the point of subscription where available. In November, Time is also launching Pakej MyKabel, targeting premises with low penetration of stable and high-speed broadband. It aims to make gigabit internet available to more Malaysians through the Pakej MyKabel.
