Late last year, Acer had a surprise in store when they debuted the Aspire Vero, a reasonably simple and powerful laptop whose unique selling point was its chassis made of post-consumer recycled plastic. It kicked off Acer’s Vero lineup of green devices, and now the Taiwanese giant has gone back to refresh the original Aspire Vero with the latest 12th Gen Intel Core processors.
The new refreshed Aspire Vero is available for purchase from now onwards on the Acer eStore as well as their official stores on Shopee and Lazada. Here’s how much they’ll cost:
As part of their environmental awareness goals, Acer Malaysia is also extending their trade-in program until the end of the year, where you can get both a rebate on the new Aspire Vero while also helping to recycle your eWaste.
The most obvious part of the Aspire Vero is its unpainted chassis. It’s made of 30% post-consumer recycled plastic, with the keycaps made out of 50% of the PCR material. One improvement Acer has made to the original Aspire Vero is to also use ocean-bound plastic for the touchpad, giving it a surface treatment so that it better feels like glass and provides an improved tactile feel while being more eco-friendly. The packaging material it comes in can be completely reused and recycled too.
As for the actual hardware itself, we’re looking at a 15.6-inch, FHD IPS display. Under the hood meanwhile is of course a 12th Gen Intel Core processor, which your choice between a Core i5-1235U or a Core i7-1255U. Regardless of which processor you opt for, you will get 8GB of DDR4 RAM that can be upgraded to up to 24GB of dual-channel DDR4 memory, as well as a 512GB NVMe SSD. No discrete graphics here though, so you’ll need to make do with the integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics. It will also come with Windows 11 Home out of the box, with Office Home & Student 2021 too.
Elsewhere, there’s a 4-cell battery that Acer says will last you up to 11 hours of use, along with a 65W charger. Thanks to its Intel Evo platform certification, you can also expect it to wake from sleep in just a second, while a 30-minute charge will also get you at least four hours of use. You’ll also find its iconic mirrored R and E keys on the keyboard as part of the Vero lineup’s call to reduce, reuse and recycle.
As for I/O, you’re getting a HDMI port, an Ethernet port, three USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port as well as a 3.5mm audio jack. You’ll also find a fingerprint reader along with support for Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 6. The overall laptop measures 17.9mm thick, and weighs roughly 1.76kg.
