Redmi 10 5G looks like the most expensive Redmi series phone in Malaysia yet

Initially launched in Malaysia in March, Xiaomi Malaysia has finally revealed the local pricing of the Redmi 10 5G smartphone. The good news? It’s under RM1,000. The bad news? Not by much. In fact, this looks like the most expensive Redmi (excluding Redmi Note, of course, that’s it’s own series) device to launch in Malaysia so far.

Typically priced closer to the RM600 bracket, the Redmi 10 5G has its retail price set for RM959, which makes it RM60 more than even the Poco M3 Pro 5G with which it shares a lot of similarities. There will only be one memory configuration in Malaysia and that’ll feature 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

That said, this time Xiaomi Malaysia has partnered with Maxis to bring this phone into the local market through Maxis Zerolution. That means with the right plan, you can but this phone for just RM1. Here are the plan breakdowns.

Currently, we can’t say for sure if Xiaomi will be selling this smartphone outside of a telco plan or if it will be available on other telcos, so you might want to stay tuned for any updates in that regard.

To recap, the Xiaomi Redmi 10 5G features a 6.58″ Full HD+ display up front with a 90Hz refresh rate. Inside, it is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor mated to 6GB of LPDDR4X memory and 128GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. You can, however, expand it to 512GB of internal storage via a microSD card.

For photos, the phone gets a dual camera setup at the back with a 50MP wide camera with an f/1.8 aperture lens and a 2MP depth camera with an f/2.4 aperture lens. Up front, you’ll find a 5MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture lens.

Keeping the lights on is a 5,000mAh battery with support for 18W fast wired charging (a 22.5W fast-charger included in the box) via USB-C.

These specs are remarkably similar with the Poco M3 Pro 5G with the major differences in the number of cameras included at the back and the design of the smartphone. The Redmi definitely looks nicer, but for RM959 it’s really debatable if it’s worth the money.

Of course, the difference is that you’ll be buying it on contract, but if we’re looking at RRP, there are definitely better phones out there. For starters, the Redmi Note 11S 5G gives you a better MediaTek Dimensity 810 processor, and also includes an 8MP ultra-wide camera alongside a 50MP wide camera and 2MP macro camera. All of this for just RM40 more at an RRP of RM999.

Besides that, there’s of course the Poco M4 Pro 5G, which is very similar in specs to the Redmi Note 11S 5G, and if you want to save a bunch of money you can also opt for the Poco M3 Pro 5G—the Redmi 10 5G’s spiritual twin—for RM799, with the big difference there being the wide camera which is 48MP.
