Touch ‘n Go eWallet app having issues, unable to cope with heavy traffic from TNG NFC card sales

Multiple Touch ‘n Go eWallet users are reportedly having issues trying to use the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app. As users try to navigate the app, they end up getting pop up warnings telling them that there’s heavy traffic reported, causing delays in processing user requests.

It seems as though this heavy traffic is related to the sale of the Enhanced Touch ‘n Go card. Touch ‘n Go users might’ve seen a notification from the eWallet app yesterday, informing them that sales of the NFC-enabled Enhanced Touch ‘n Go card would be happening today at 10am. This would coincide with users having problems with the app, as everyone rushing to get one of these new Enhanced Touch ‘n Go cards has apparently overloaded their servers. Previously, Touch ‘n Go had released these new cards in batches at random times instead.

There’s a good reason why everyone wants one of these new Enhanced Touch ‘n Go cards of course. It solves one of the biggest issues when trying to reload a physical Touch ‘n Go card these days, which is that you can’t actually do it via the eWallet app, and instead you need to do it in-person. With an Enhanced Touch ‘n Go card and a smartphone with NFC support, you’ll be able to reload directly into your physical Touch ‘n Go card’s balance using the eWallet app. This new card though will cost you RM10, with an additional RM5 shipping fee when you order it through the app.

This is also just the latest issue that the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app would face in recent months. Back in June, the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app and its services such as RFID and PayDirect were hit with ‘technical difficulties’, leading to a nationwide day-long outage affecting contactless payments using the app as well as RFID users on the road.
