Xiaomi 12 Lite Malaysia: Everything you need to know

The Xiaomi 12 Lite debuted earlier this year in China as the latest member of the Xiaomi 12 series, incidentally after they had launched the Xiaomi 12S lineup. It’s not exactly a flagship device, but does sit right under its Xiaomi 12 stablemates as a more premium midrange option.

Xiaomi 12 Lite Malaysia pricing and availability

The Xiaomi 12 Lite will come in two configurations, and pre-orders for it will begin on the 19th of August till the 26th. Here’s how much they’ll cost:

  • Xiaomi 12 Lite, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage – RM1,699
  • Xiaomi 12 Lite, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM1,899

If you do get a Xiaomi 12 Lite for yourself during the pre-order period, you’ll be able to snag yourself a RM100 discount for both models. Furthermore, if you get it from their official store on Shopee or Lazada, there’s also a complimentary pair of Redmi Buds 3 Lite for you. Meanwhile, those who get it from official Xiaomi Stores nationwide will be able to get a free Mi Body Composition Scale 2, a Xiaomi sports water bottle and a Xiaomi shoulder bag.

Xiaomi 12 Lite specs

The Xiaomi 12 Lite features what is quite literally a ‘featherweight’ light design, weighing in at just 173g and 7.29mm thin. Upfront there’s a 6.55-inch, FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate with a peak brightness of 920nits. There’s also support for HDR10+, Dolby Vision and a contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1, as well as a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 over it for protection. On the back you’ll find a matte colour gradient, while the sides come with flat edges to them.

Under the hood meanwhile you’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G system-on-chip, mated to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. It comes with MIUI 13 based on Android 12 out of the box. Keeping things cool meanwhile is a ‘multi-tier’ cooling system for heat dissipation.

As for cameras, there’s a triple camera setup on the rear, with a main 108MP, f/1.88 camera using the Samsung HM2 sensor. Just under it are two more cameras—an 8MP, f/2.2 ultrawide angle shooter and a 2MP, f/2.4 macro lens. The front of the device meanwhile has a 32MP, f/2.45 camera for all your selfie needs.

The battery meanwhile has a 4,300mAh capacity which Xiaomi rates for a full day of use, and comes with 67W fast charging that can power up your phone to 100% in just 41 minutes. There’s Xiaomi AdaptiveCharge technology too which learns your charging pattern to optimise its charging speeds allowing it to be ready and fully charged when you need it to be.

Other features of note include stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and an under display fingerprint sensor. It comes with support for NFC, 5G, Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 6 connectivity too. The Xiaomi 12 Lite will be available in Lite Green, Lite Pink and Black colourways.

Compared to the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE that it replaces, it’s certainly significantly more expensive. The Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE for comparison started at RM1,199 for a model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and topped out at RM1,599 for 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, all while using the same Snapdragon 778G. There are some upgrades on the Xiaomi 12 Lite though, notably a 120Hz refresh rate, a bigger battery with faster charging and better cameras.
