The iPhone 14 series is set to be Apple’s most expensive iPhone yet

Anyone remotely familiar with tech might know Apple as the company with the ever more expensive smartphones; remember how they broke the internet when they launched the iPhone X in 2017 for USD999? While now is perhaps the worst time to buy an iPhone 13 series device, if you’ve been saving up for a new iPhone 14 series smartphone you might want to ensure you’ve got extra to spare as it’s expected to be more expensive than its predecessor.

According to known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the average selling price of the whole iPhone 14 range is set to increase by roughly 15% compared to the average selling price of the iPhone 13 lineup. This is mostly down to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max coming with a price increase it seems, as well as a higher shipment proportion of them.

Kuo bases his estimates on Hon Hai Technology Group, better known as Foxconn, raising their business outlook for the year from ‘roughly flat’ to ‘growing’. This is likely a sign that they’re benefitting from an increased average selling price of the iPhone 14 lineup. Foxconn of course is one of Apple’s biggest partners, with the Taiwanese company helping build the actual iPhones that get sold by Apple.

Another thing to note is that there’s likely no more iPhone Mini in the upcoming iPhone 14 series, which could also play a role in the overall higher prices we expect to see when they debut. Apple is widely expected to drop the Mini in favour of a non-Pro Max version of the iPhone 14, which would also mean that the regular iPhone 14 would become the cheapest one available.

For reference, the iPhone 13 Mini started at RM3,399 while the regular iPhone 13 started at RM3,899. The iPhone 13 Pro meanwhile retailed at RM4,899 with the bigger iPhone 13 Pro Max starting at RM5,299. Apple has kept these prices the same for a number of generations now, with the iPhone 11 for example starting at RM3,399, while the iPhone 12 Mini also went for RM3,399. The iPhone Pro devices have also had stagnated price tags for awhile now, with the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro also launching for RM4,899.
