Honor Malaysia is introducing the Honor 70 in Malaysia next week and this is their successor to the Honor 50. The Honor 50 was the brand’s comeback device for the international market and it came with Google Mobile Services. The new Honor 70 comes not only with hardware upgrades but it is also the first smartphone to use Sony’s IMX800 image sensor.
The Honor 70 Malaysian launch is happening on Thursday, 18th August at 8pm local time. You can watch the announcement live on their official Facebook page.
If you subscribe to Honor’s newsletter and email updates, you will stand a chance to win prizes which include the Honor Watch GS3, Honor Band 6, Honor Sport Bluetooth Earphones and vouchers worth up to RM100.
The Honor 70 series was launched in China back in May with a total of 3 models – Honor 70, Honor 70 Pro and the Honor 70 Pro+. Looking at the local teasers, it appears that only the base Honor 70 model will be coming to Malaysia, similar to last year’s Honor 50.
According to China’s spec-sheet, the Honor 70 will come with a 6.67″ Full HD+ OLED display that pushes a 120Hz refresh rate. It runs on a Snapdragon 778G Plus, which is a minor upgrade over the Honor 50’s Snapdragon 778G. The device can be configured with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and a choice of 256GB or 512GB of internal storage.
The biggest highlight is its updated triple-camera setup which include a 54MP f/1.9 main camera that uses a 1/1.49″ Sony IMX800 sensor. There’s also a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera which can be used for macro shots and a 2MP shooter for depth. Unfortunately, there’s no telephoto camera as that’s only offered on the higher Honor 70 Pro and Pro+ models. For selfies, the punch-hole on the top of the display houses a 32MP front camera.
The Honor 70 gets a 4,800mAh battery which is 500mAh more than the Honor 50’s 4,300mAh capacity. It also supports 66W Super Fast Charge via USB-C. In China, the Honor 70 is priced from CNY 2,699 (about RM1,781) for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage model. As a reference, when the Honor 50 was launched in Malaysia last year, the base 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model was priced at RM1,699 while the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage version was priced at RM1,999.
