Honor Malaysia has introduced a new member to its X series with the arrival of the Honor X8 5G. This is currently their most affordable 5G-enabled device in the lineup and it’s priced under RM1,000.
The Honor X8 5G with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage retails for RM999 in Malaysia. It’s priced RM100 more than the LTE version that was launched in March this year. As an introductory offer, Honor Malaysia is offering 12-month extended warranty and an Honor Storage Bag valued at RM148 in total.
If you’re interested, you can purchase it online via Honor’s website, Shopee and Lazada. Alternatively, you can get it for RM899 on Courts’ official store on Lazada but it looks like you don’t get the extra freebies. The device comes in two colours – Ocean Blue and Midnight Black.
The Honor X8 5G may look similar to the LTE model but it comes with a couple of hardware compromises. Upfront, the screen is downgraded from a 6.7″ Full HD LCD display with 90Hz refresh rate to a smaller 6.5″ HD 720p unit. Instead of a Snapdragon 680 chip, the X8 5G runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 Plus processor which supports 5G. The device comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage which can be expanded further via microSD card.
In terms of cameras, the Honor X8 5G gets three instead of four cameras at the rear. It has a 48MP main camera, and two 2MP cameras for depth and macro. Meanwhile, the tiny notch on the screen houses an 8MP selfie camera.
Despite the obvious downgrades, the X8 5G gets a 5,000mAh battery which is 1,000mAh more than the LTE version. It also supports 22.5W fast wired charging via USB-C which Honor claims to provide 3 hours of video playback with an instant 10-minute charge. Out of the box, it runs on Android 11 with Magic UI 4.2 skin on top.
