Dbrand lets you turn your phone into Nothing

As a regular run-of-the-mill iPhone user, I’ve never had any real desire to try out Android devices—that is until Henry Golding endorsed the Nothing Phone (1) on his Instagram as an investor. The upcoming device seems really interesting, with a unique “transparent” design at the back that lights up according to your notification and interactions. It’s so cool that I was even thinking to myself that it might be cool enough to switch to Android from Apple—but maybe I’m getting ahead of myself here.

So, what if I wanted my phone to have the same look as the Nothing Phone (1), but I still wanted to keep using an Apple device? Well, Dbrand just did us a favour.

Dbrand introduced Something—a collection of skins and cases that match the unique style of the Nothing Phone (1), but you’re able to pair them with select iPhones, Pixels, and other devices. According to Dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz, the Nothing brand is “untested” and “overhyped” but people are interested in the looks. And since the phone even appealed to me, I think Ijaz has got it right on the money.

You might be thinking—“wait, how can Dbrand get away with this?” Well, Dbrand insists—hilariously—that they “stole nothing“. What an incredible line.

“Some might accuse us of theft. Here’s our counter: we stole nothing. After all, we’ve spent a lot of time looking at internal hardware thanks to our Teardown initiative. As a result, we’re uniquely qualified to rip off an industrial design aesthetic and “creatively reinterpret” it for other devices. That’s not theft – it’s plagiarism, which is definitely not a crime. We checked,” wrote Dbrand.

Currently, you’re able to buy the Something line for the iPhone 13 Pro Max, the Pixel 6 Pro, and the Samsung S22 Ultra. You can get them as a Skin for USD 24.95 (RM111.05) or a case for USD 19.95 (RM88.76). You can purchase them on their site. There are also plans to release a Nintendo Switch version of Something, as well as for other additional devices.

But if you’re still interested in the Nothing Phone (1), it is expected to go on sale in Malaysia very soon. Retailer DirectD has started accepting pre-orders for the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage model for RM2,399.
