The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 was first shown off to the world back in June, and offers some choice upgrades under the hood compared to the original Surface Laptop Go. If you want to have the Surface Laptop experience but on a budget, it’s now available for purchase in Malaysia.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 Malaysia pricing and availability

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 is now available for purchase from their authorised retailers such as Harvey Norman, PC Image, TMT, All IT and Gloo, as well as their commercial partners nationwide. It’ll come in two configurations:

  • Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2, Intel Core i5-1135G7, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage – RM3,488
  • Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2, Intel Core i5-1135G7, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM3,788

As part of the launch, Microsoft together with their authorised retailers will also be giving away free gifts worth up to RM590 from now till the end of month or till stocks last. It should be noted though that you might want to double check which specific retailer to get your Surface Laptop Go 2 from though as the free gifts will vary depending on the outlet.

For example, Harvey Norman are giving away a complimentary Microsoft Mobile Mouse, a laptop sleeve, Microsoft 365 Family and a JBL Clip 4 speaker. PC Image though will be bundling a laptop sleeve, Microsoft Mobile Mouse, a F-Secure Internet Security key for 1 year and a Joyroom JR-TR13 Pro wireless earbuds. ALL IT meanwhile swaps the earbuds out, and instead gives away the Microsoft Mobile Mouse, a laptop sleeve, F-Secure Internet Security key for 1 year, Microsoft 365 Personal and a HP Desktop AIO 2336 printer.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 specs

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 honestly doesn’t look very different from the original Surface Laptop Go, with Microsoft keeping mostly the same chassis and look. It has the aluminum and polycarbonate composite chassis, weighing 1.1kg and measuring 15.7mm thick. As for the display, it has a touch-sensitive 12.4-inch PixelSense display running a 1536 x 1024p resolution in the classic 3:2 Microsoft Surface aspect ratio, with a maximum brightness of 330nits.

The biggest upgrade to the Surface Laptop Go 2 though comes under the hood. It ditches the 10th Gen Intel Core processors and instead now gets an 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1135G7 with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of storage, as well as Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics. Another nice to see here is Microsoft ditching configurations with 64GB of the horrendously slow eMMC storage. The SSD storage is removable too, though not technically ‘user serviceable’. This means that you’ll need to bring it to an authorised technician to get it replaced, though at least it’s better than becoming eWaste. And just like any Microsoft laptop, it comes with Windows 11 out of the box.

It’s battery meanwhile is a 41Whr battery that Microsoft says is good for 13.5 hours, 30 minutes more than the original Surface Laptop Go. Charging it though requires the proprietary Surface Connect port, and you’ll also find a USB-C port, a USB-A port and a headphone jack. However, the keyboard of the Surface Laptop Go 2 is still inexplicably not backlit, but you’ll at least still have a fingerprint sensor on the power button.

Microsoft says that the 720p webcam on the Surface Laptop Go 2 has been improved from its predecessor too. There’s also dual far-field Studio Mics and Omnisonic speakers with Dolby Audio. Compared to the original Surface Laptop Go, Microsoft claims that the new Surface Laptop Go 2 will be quieter as well as having improved thermals. Malaysians though will only be able to get it in just one colourway, Platinum.
