Here’s what you can do to celebrate Lego’s 90th anniversary

Lego celebrates its 90th anniversary this year, launching a brand new 1,100 piece set called the Classic 90 Years of Play (11021). So, what is this set, and what does it contain?

“Ninety years ago, a Danish carpenter crafted a line of small wooden toys in his workshop in Billund, Denmark. His first collection had a modest 36 items that included cars, aeroplanes, and yoyos, all carefully crafted to help local children learn about the world… Twenty-six years later, the Lego brick we know today was patented, with its interlocking tube system and endless creative building possibilities,” wrote Lego in its press release.

For Lego’s big anniversary, the company released the Classic 90 Years of Play set—featuring little versions of iconic Lego sets throughout the years. The set includes a 1932 Duck to a 2020 Pineapple Pencil Holder. So, what are the little Lego tributes?

There are 15 mini-build recreations of iconic Lego toys. Each of the 15 mini-builds comes with a step-by-step building guide, and children ages 5 and up are able to build these.

The most notable little Lego toys include the vintage duck toy from 1932—a toy created 90 years ago, an elephant from 1981, a pirate ship from 1989, a princess carriage from the year 2000, Ninjago’s Golden Dragon from 2013, and a pineapple pen holder from 2020. There are also plenty of extra bricks for you to play and build whatever you want for fun.

You can order the set through the Lego site. The 90 Years of Play set costs USD 49.99 (about RM220).

If you’re feeling a bit playful today, Lego also added a fun little quiz called “What Lego Brick Are You?” for its 90th anniversary so you can determine which Lego brick you are. Be prepared for the site to indirectly call you “old and lame” by comparing you to the Lego brick of a suitcase after you finish your quiz, though.
