Touch ‘n Go eWallet services are back online after day-long outage

The Touch ‘n Go eWallet app and its services are now back online and working as normal, according to Touch ‘n Go. This comes after the app along with its services such as cashless transactions, RFID and PayDirect weren’t available for most of the day (17/6/2022).

Users first began noticing issues with Touch ‘n Go’s services as early as this morning. The Touch ‘n Go eWallet was no longer usable, as despite being able to load into the app, whenever you tried to do anything with it such as reload your eWallet, scan a QR code for payment or attempt to transfer money to others, you’ll be greeted with a pop up message saying ‘Connection Time Out. Your network connection may be lost. Please try again later.’

Similarly, Malaysians on the road were also unable to get through toll booths, as neither the RFID or PayDirect features were working. As such, many drivers had to ensure they had a physical Touch ‘n Go card with them that had enough credit or balance in it. The outage also affected the Enhanced Touch ‘n Go card’s ability to reload directly using the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app via NFC.

Eventually, at around 6.17pm Touch ‘n Go issued an update stating that physical Touch ‘n Go cards as well as RFID could still be used on highways, transit and parking as long as there was enough balance in it. However, they were still dealing with the technical difficulty that had brought the Touch ‘n Go eWallet down to a halt. As of 9.35pm though, Touch ‘n Go had issued another update that all Touch ‘n Go eWallet services are now back up and running. They also apologised for the inconvenience caused.

Plenty of Malaysians ended up voicing their frustration at Touch ‘n Go on their social media channels, though a few others would also comment on their posts asking for an explanation as well as for a ‘financial reimbursement’, perhaps in jest. In the meantime, if you are still facing trouble with your Touch ‘n Go eWallet and its services, do let us know in the comments below.
