It’s been over a year now since the Poco F3 launched, and while we did see a Poco F4 GT arrive in Malaysia as one of the more affordable Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered smartphones back in April, we have yet to see the base model Poco F4 debut. However, Poco has indeed given a date for when it’ll arrive, with some teaser pics of the upcoming smartphone too.
Poco will be launching the long-awaited Poco F4 and the Poco X4 GT next week, on the 23rd of June at 8pm local time. You’ll be able to watch it on their social media channels as well as on their YouTube. Despite the two devices not officially being out just yet, we do have a rough idea as for what we can expect though.
The Poco F4 is rumoured to be a rebadge of the Redmi K40S that is currently only available in China. This means that you can expect a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 system-on-chip under the hood with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It’s believed to come with the same 6.67-inch, FHD+ AMOLED display too with a 120Hz refresh rate. This is understandably a little disappointing to some, as it’s more or less the same specs as last year’s Poco F3.
However, there does seem to be one major upgrade coming with the Poco F4 over the Poco F3. The Poco F3 might’ve been lauded for being a great bang-for-buck device, but its 48MP camera lacked optical image stabilisation (OIS). The Poco F4 meanwhile is expected to arrive with a 64MP main camera that will feature OIS, as shown off in Poco’s teaser images for their launch event.
Meanwhile, there’s also the Poco X4 GT that they’re calling the ‘speed-expert’ in their marketing images. This device is believed to be a rebadge of the Redmi Note 11T Pro that was launched in China a while back. It will likely use the same new MediaTek Dimensity 8100 chip together with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The display meanwhile is a 6.6-inch, FHD+ IPS display with a 144Hz refresh rate.
Elsewhere, you can expect the Poco X4 GT to feature a 64MP main camera in a triple camera setup, though OIS remains an uncertainty. There should also be stereo speakers, along with a 5,080mAh battery. There’s no mention of pricing for either device so far, but word is that the Poco F4 will be the more expensive option of the two.
