Got RM23,000 to spare? The ROG Zephyrus Duo 16’s display can switch from 4K 120Hz to FHD 240Hz

Asus has recently launched not just the 2022 ROG Flow X13 and ROG Zephyrus G14, but they’ve also come out with the new ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 too. It’s certainly not for everyone due to its high price, but packs a lot of the latest and greatest tech you can find in a laptop this size.

Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 Malaysia pricing and availability

The ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is available now for purchase from the official Asus stores on Lazada, Shopee as well as their retail partners across Malaysia. However, you’ll want to make sure you have the kind of deep pockets to afford it, as the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 could cost you almost as much as a Perodua Axia.

  • ROG Zephyrus Duo 16, AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Mini LED display – RM15,999
  • ROG Zephyrus Duo 16, AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, 64GB RAM, 4TB SSD, Dual Spec display – RM22,999

Just like the other ROG laptops launched, the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 will come with a complimentary month of PC Game Pass where you can try out over a hundred different titles on your new laptop.

Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 specs

As you can probably tell, there’s a lot going on here with the display displays of the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16. The most obvious feature is of course the secondary display between the main screen and the keyboard. Dubbed the ScreenPad Plus, the secondary display is a 14-inch, IPS panel running at 4K with a near 32:9 aspect ratio. It gives you additional screen real estate and supports stylus usage too. Asus says that thanks to the 4-directioanl hinge, it pops open and slides upward when you lift up the laptop, giving you a ‘nearly bezel-less’ experience.

The main display itself though comes in though flavours, with the base model of the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 using a 16-inch, QHD Mini LED display in a 16:10 aspect ratio. It has 512 dimming zones and can reach a peak brightness of 1100nits. Bring an ROG laptop though, it’s still able to hit a 165Hz refresh rate and a 3ms response time, while also covering 100% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut along with support for Dolby Vision HDR.

If you’re going to fork out RM22,999 for the higher end configuration meanwhile you’ll be getting a 16-inch, ‘Dual Spec’ display in a 16:10 ratio. Dual Spec here essentially means that you can switch the display of the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 between two different configurations: 4K at 120Hz, or FHD at 240Hz. This way, gamers can choose between having a higher resolution or prioritising their frame rate on an app-by-app or game-by-game situation. Making all of this work is something Asus calls Pixel Acceleration Technology, allowing for fast upscaling when in FHD mode for higher frame rates.

Under the hood, the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 continues to be just as impressive. There’s an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX mated to 32GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1TB SSD on the base model, while the higher end variant gets 64GB of DDR5 RAM and two 2TB SSDs configured in RAID 0 for a total of 4TB of storage. The base model also has an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070Ti graphics card with 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM and a 150W TGP, while the higher end one has an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti with 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM and a 165W TGP. And as usual with ROG laptops, there’s a MUX switch too for the GPU to bypass the CPU for better performance.

As for I/O, you’re getting a HDMI 2.1 port, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, two USB-C Gen 2 ports, an Ethernet port as well as a 3.5mm audio jack. There’s WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 support too. All this gets powered by a 90WHr battery that can be charged with either a Type-C charger at 100W or their proprietary charger at 280W. You’ll also find a six-speaker setup with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res certification on the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 along with a 720p Windows Hello webcam and an RGB backlit chiclet keyboard.
