WTF is an NFT-themed ice cream parlour doing at Sunway Pyramid?

If you’re both an NFT fan… and an ice cream addict… boy do we have a suggestion for you. Crème De La Crème introduces Malaysia’s first NFT-themed ice cream parlour—and it’s located at Sunway Pyramid.

So, I’m personally not the biggest fan of NFTs. I did a whole piece about how crappy it can be for the environment and for smaller artists, and it’s not getting the best reputation right now because of the current crypto crash and how lawless it can be. I also am not a fan of how NFT-themed food outlets offer expensive and unnecessary NFT-related items that don’t seem that worth buying. But NFTs can also be used for good—so I’m not totally opposed to them.

I am, however, going to ask the question: WTF is an NFT-themed ice cream parlour?

A lot of you may already know or have even tried ice cream at Crème De La Crème. It’s where you can get artisanal ice cream and Petits Gâteaux—which are basically fancy cupcakes according to what I Googled. But they just opened up a new branch in Sunway Pyramid, and it’s got NFT-themed art on its walls along with NFT-themed ice creams for sale.

It looks like they have three different NFT-themed flavours—Bored Ape, Doodles, and CryptoPunk. According to Says, the blue ice cream is inspired by the CryptoPunk #5822 NFT which was sold for about RM104.8 million. It is an Australian cream cheese ice cream swirled with Butterfly Pea Flower ice cream, with burnt cheesecake chunks.

The Bored Ape flavour—inspired by the Bored Ape NFTs—is made from French milk chocolate ice cream, swirled with caramelised bananas and freshly baked chocolate crumble. Doodles—inspired by the rainbow pastel NFTs—is an equally pastel-ly ice cream made from lychee sorbet, peach sorbet, Madagascar vanilla ice cream, and Butterfly Pea Flower.

Those who own NFTs can also share their personal pieces with the ice cream parlour and the NFT would be exhibited on their LED-display screens. According to founder, Lio Lim, they want the parlour to be a place where people could organise and host events surrounding topics relating to NFTs.

“If you are like me and are obsessed with NFTs, we’ve created the perfect universe for you. For those who are new to NFTs, come experience and explore with us. For those who live and breathe NFTs, claim your right to this space where you can chill, meet, and share your love for NFTs with like-minded members of the community,” said Lim.

I might not be a fan of NFTs, but I’m not opposed to trying the NFT-themed flavours. Just as long as they don’t make me buy an NFT just for the sake of having their food.
