You can use TNG eWallet to pay for taxi rides in Singapore

Touch ‘n Go Group has announced the expansion of its cross-border payments capability to Singapore with its eWallet acceptance by Singapore’s ComfortDelGro taxis. If you’re heading to Singapore, you can use the TNG eWallet app to pay for ComfortDelGro taxi fares via the Alipay+ network.

TNG Digital CEO Alan Ni said “This is the beginning of a further expansion of our payment services to Singapore. ComfortDelGro is the operator of the largest taxi network in Singapore, operating about 9,000 taxis across the city. We view this as an excellent milestone to expand our payments proposition to Singapore and we’re extremely pleased to have been able to bring our users this added convenience and use-case.”

He added, “As borders reopen and international travel resumes, I expect our users to enjoy using the eWallet when we have more acceptance points in Singapore, in the exact same seamless way as how they would use the eWallet in Malaysia. We will continue to grow our acceptance network in time to come.”

Commenting on the collaboration, Ant Group’s Alipay+ Global Payment Partnership General Manager Cheng Guoming said “Touch ‘n Go eWallet is a long time and close partner to Ant Group, and the leading mobile wallet in Malaysia serving over 17 million local users to meet their daily life needs from making payments to investing. The latest collaboration with Alipay+ to enable and further expand its cross-border usage is yet another innovation to allow its users to travel with the eWallet and enjoy a hassle-free and seamless payment experience outside their home country.”

How to make cross-border payments via TNG eWallet?

To use your TNG eWallet overseas at an Alipay+ merchant, just tap on Pay from the home screen, and then swipe up as shown in the screenshot above. Make sure the correct country is selected and show the QR code to the merchant or service provider. At the moment, TNG eWallet’s cross-border payment service is only available in Singapore and Japan. Although Ant Group is from China, the feature currently doesn’t work in mainland China.

As part of the introductory promo, TNG eWallet users can enjoy instant discounts from RM4 to RM6 off the total fare when they ride ComfortDelGro taxis with the eWallet until 25th June 2022. The discounts are varied at different weeks and are capped at the first 300 transactions daily. You can learn more about TNG eWallet’s Alipay+ feature on the official FAQ.
