Nothing will be launching the transparent Phone (1) on 12 July

Mark your calendars: Nothing, the tech company founded by former OnePlus man Carl Pei is set to reveal more about their upcoming debut smartphone, the Phone (1). While they had previously only given us the Q3 2022 target, we now have a date for it: 12 July 2022.

Nothing will be organising the event in London, UK on 12 July, 11pm local time. Dubbed the Nothing (event): Return to Instinct, you’ll be able to watch it online to on their website. You can also head over to its event page on the Nothing website and sign up for the event to get notified when the Return to Instinct event begins.

We also know some of the features the Phone (1) will come with already. For starters, we know that it’ll definitely come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor under the hood, though which one exactly remains a mystery. It’ll also be running its own skin of Android dubbed as Nothing OS, which we got a teaser of when they launched the Nothing Launcher beta on the Google Play Store recently. We gave it a quick spin ourselves, though we weren’t quite impressed with it.

On top of that, the Phone (1) should be able to get at least three years of Android OS upgrades, along with four years of security patches. There’s no news when it comes to battery life, though they have mentioned that it will come with wireless charging at least.

Design-wise, Nothing has made some pretty bold claims here. They have stated that there will be no chin on the front of the device to begin with, and the frame itself will be made out of recycled aluminum. You can also expect the Phone (1) to feature transparent elements on the back of the device, following the same design philosophy as that of their Ear (1) wireless earbuds. There will apparently be illuminating light strips on the rear too.
