Earlier this month, KFC Malaysia announced that you can now trade any unsatisfactory piece of chicken through an online form by scanning a QR code. However, that bit of news might have been clouded by the news of KFC’s exclusive NFTs.
In case you missed it, KFC launched 11 exclusive NFT artwork pieces by talented local artists Wilson Ng, Book of Lai, and Arif Rafhan Othman in honour of KFC’s “secret spice blend of 11 herbs and spices”. Eight of the NFTs are made available at OpenSea.
Along with the NFTs, KFC Malaysia also announced its Quality Taste Guaranteed policy. The policy offers a 1 for 1 exchange if you’re not happy with the chicken—but how do we do it?
According to Alex, who tried out the QR code at a KFC outlet, there are QR codes that customers can scan on the tables marked “Quality Taste Guaranteed”. If you’ve received an unsatisfying piece of chicken, you can scan the QR code and fill-up the form. You’ll be asked to type in your name, number, and email—as well as pick a reason for replacement.
The reasons can vary from “not juicy enough”, “not tender”, “burnt”, “not hot”, “too greasy”, and “not as flavourful”. You can have to pick the flavour of the replacement chicken piece (s).
It’s important to note the several terms and conditions that come with the offer. For one thing, you aren’t allowed to trade in fully eaten chicken—understandably. You are, however, able to trade in uneaten or partially eaten chicken. Though I’m not sure how partial the “partially eaten” chicken needs to be.
The 1 for 1 exchange is only valid for dine-in, drive-thru, or takeaway orders. Orders made through GrabFood, FoodPanda, Shopee Food, or Air Asia Food are not applicable. However, even if you ordered the chicken through something like a drive-thru, you’d still need to go to over-the-counter for the trade.
According to some folks on Twitter, they were concerned that the 1 for 1 exchange doesn’t accept trading smaller pieces of chicken for bigger ones. It’s a common concern, but after all, it’s a “Quality Taste Guarantee”—not a size guarantee.
Some highlighted that the Quality Taste Guarantee should also be considered for other KFC items like nuggets and cheezy wedges. There is also a Twitter user that noted people could abuse this feature to just eat all the chicken skin—but exchanging the chicken more than once seems like a lot of work, time, and effort. What do you think, though?
