The Magic 4 Pro is Honor Malaysia’s first flagship smartphone in years

During the MWC 2022 trade show in Barcelona earlier this year, Honor was one of the few to show off their latest flagship smartphone for the year in the form of the Honor Magic 4 Pro. Amusingly launched with the tagline ‘Pain Point Killer’, the Honor Magic 4 Pro was also slated for a Q2 launch in Malaysia, and according to Honor Malaysia that will happen this 1 June.

The Honor Magic 4 Pro has a pretty huge 6.81-inch, ‘quad curved’ LTPO OLED display with a 1312 x 2848p resolution for a pixel density of 460ppi. It also features an up to 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and a pulse width modulation of 1920Hz, the latter of which Honor says reduces screen flicker and prevents hurting your eyes. The display has a 1000nits peak brightness too with full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut as well as HDR10+. An independent display chipset in it also allows for SDR to HDR upscaling along with Motion Estimation Motion Compensation technology to artificially increase framerates to 120Hz.

Under the hood, you’ll find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 system-on-chip mated to 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of storage. The Honor Magic 4 Pro runs Magic UI 6.0 based on Android 12 out of the box, meaning that you will be able to get Google Mobile Services on it. However, disappointingly it seems as though they’re only committing to two years of major Android OS upgrades.

In the camera department meanwhile you’ll find a triple camera setup with a main 50MP, f/1.8 camera flanked by a 50MP, f/2.2 ultrawide angle lens offering a 122° field of view. There’s also a third 64MP, f/3.5 periscope telephoto camera coffering a 3.5x optical zoom and up to a 100x digital zoom. It’s huge circular camera bump houses a 8*8 dToF laser focusing sensor and a flicker sensor too. Honor claims the Magic 4 Pro’s cameras are capable of ultra fusion photography, where it simultaneously uses multiple rear cameras to take a shot and uses AI to get the best results. As for selfies, you get a 12MP, f/2.4 front facing camera paired with a 3D ToF depth sensor.

Other features of notes includes a 4,600mAh battery with 100W wired fast charging and 100W wireless fast charging via Honor SuperCharge. There’s stereo speakers too, though no 3.5mm audio jack here. It supports Bluetooth 5.2, WiFi 6 and NFC connectivity and has an under display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor as well. The Magic 4 Pro comes with an IP68 rating and is offered in cyan, gold and black colourways.

As for pricing, Honor Malaysia has so far not mentioned how much the Honor Magic 4 Pro will cost. However, we do know that the device costs EUR1,099 (~RM5,088.95) in Europe and £949.99 (~RM5,215.05) in the UK. It would be the first real flagship Honor has brought to our shores, having launched a plethora of midrange devices here since going independent, including the Honor 50 from last year.
