Many of us here in the SoyaCincau office are big fans of Lego, and so you can just imagine the excitement when we found out that Lego has teamed up with Hasbro to bring the iconic Transformers Autobots leader Optimus Prime to life.
Part of their Creator Expert line, the Lego Optimus Prime has 1,508 pieces and stands over 35cm tall as a robot. Once assembled though, there’s 19 points of articulation allowing you to switch it up into a truck. This makes it one of the first times a Lego set has been able to convert between two distinct models without the need to completely rebuild itself. You’ll also find Optimus Prime’s iconic ion blaster, Energon axe, Energon Cube and the Autobot Matrix of Leadership which can be placed within his chest.
Incidentally, this isn’t the first time Hasbro has tried to make a buildable Transformers robot, except the last time they did it they tried to do it themselves using their Lego knock-offs Kre-O. It wasn’t very well received to say the least, so it’s nice to see Hasbro collaborate with Lego themselves to bring a proper product to life. This new set though is inspired by the original 1984 toy line and animated TV series and is modeled after the G1 Optimus Prime.
“It has been an honour and joy to work together with Hasbro to develop a LEGO version of Optimus Prime! I am excited to see these two toy companies come together for the first time to celebrate the leader of the Autobots.
Optimus Prime has become a pop culture symbol of courage, selflessness, and great leadership as well as an awesome toy that embodies the problem-solving and creativity skills that both companies value so much,” – Joseph Patrick Kyde, Senior Designer, Lego
Local availability and pricing has yet to be confirmed, but Lego did say that the Lego Optimus Prime Set #10302 will be made available globally. It’s priced at £149.99 (~RM805.91) in the UK and USD169.99 (~RM747.45) in the United States and can be purchased from the 1st of June onwards.
